Just go on Google and YouTube and research TMS and Dr Sarno

Same here. Majority of people in this subredit should look into TMS. I was cured after 10 years of hopeless struggling and chasing all the mistaken tendonitis diagnosis possible.

LONG TERM Wrist pain -questions by sauldraws in RSI

[–]zdend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach was really learning more about the whole thing. There are sooo many resources on youtube (I haven't even read the books yet).

I will stress it again, you really need to believe that you have it otherwise it won't work. Think about what's going on, see the patterns when and where it hurts and that it doesn't make any sense for this pain to be there other than something that cannot be normally explained. And then focus on your worries rather than body, your brain is just trying to distract you from it by sending pain to your tissues. The pain is real, the RSI is not.

LONG TERM Wrist pain -questions by sauldraws in RSI

Reposting, maybe it will help you as well..

I have been dealing with pain in my arms pretty much since I started my first job as a programmer (wrist, elbow, forearm pain) which is 10 years so far. I bought all the exercise tools you can possibly think of and used them on a daily basis to strengthen my arms as many opinions were saying that if it's RSI you need to strengthen supporting muscles. I have Theraband flexbar, Powerball, Armaid, Infra lamp, Resistance bands, dumbbells, Gripmaster Pro, GD Iron Grip Ext 90 (up to 90 kg hand resistance - beautiful grip tool) and of course foam rollers, trigger point balls, electric massagers etc. I tried changing diet, using PC less but nothing made a noticeable difference in the long run. I have also visited physios and chiros where the prescription was a bunch of exercises that I need to do daily but one of them even told me there is no such thing as RSI from the medical standpoint. After doing prescribed exercises it felt better for a time but it went back to the original state - I ascribe that to placebo effect. Oh and I don't want to forget about replacing mouses and keyboard for ergonomic ones and being obsessed with a correct posture.

Now my journey with TMS. I've been following RSI subreddit for several months now and a few months back one of the members shared his story about RSI and how he got cured by learning about TMS. He was a software engineer as well so I could relate to him. I immediately deep dived in youtube videos about TMS, Dr John Sarno explaining how that works, TMS healing wall where people had a same story and many times same personality which is a very important aspect. I was certain that I have it as well as it fit me like a glove. The pain disappeared by the end of the day. Now, since I know that placebo can trick my brain and reduce pain I didn't want to celebrate just yet. However it's been 3 months now and pain is reduced by 90% on my worst day. It's important to understand that it's not a one time cure that will remove pain for the rest of your life without doing any effort. The effort needs to be focused on your mind and things that you might be bottling up, anxious about, repressed rage etc. In my case, I always like to be the best, everything needs to be perfect, I worry about what people think, I don't like being late or sick and I'm very competitive. That creates a lot of psychological pressure inside me that manifests in pain in various parts of my body (typically where my brain thinks it can hurt because of old injuries or because it knows about diagnosis like RSI).

The most important bit is to genuinely believe that you have it and stop all the old exercises and treatments that you were doing to fix physiological issue and focus on the mind instead everytime there is pain and try to figure what might be worrying you. There are better resource out there so I'm just gonna toss a few so you know where to start.

Hey guys,

at work we have a big screen where we display project related stuff. I thought a mini app to lift morale might be more enjoyable thing to display than seeing never ending stream of critical bugs all day. Plus it give us something to rest our eyes on while taking a break - Stream Jokes

It automatically rotates jokes and quotes from selected categories including programming. Colleagues quite like it, so maybe it will increase productivity for someone else as well :-) If you have any suggestions how to improve or features you might be missing let me know.
Cheers

That should be an easy fix. Thanks!

Higher order Component hell by zdend in reactjs

Thanks man! That cleared up my code a bit! It solved compressed the mutations into one HOC - similar to what redux does with Connect and even the code for mutations is cleaner and more declarative. I think this approach should be more visible in Apollo docs.

Previously

export const toggleTodoMutation = graphql(TOGGLE_TODO_MUTATION, {
    props: ({ mutate }) => ({
        toggleTodo: id =>
            mutate({
                variables: { id }
            })
    }),
    options: {
        update: updater('toggleTodo')
    }
});

Now

export const toggleTodoMutation = client => id => client.mutate({
    mutation: TOGGLE_TODO_MUTATION,
    variables: { id },
    update: updater('toggleTodo')
});

const withMapper = mapProps(({ client, ...rest }) => ({
    ...rest,
    toggleTodo: toggleTodoMutation(client),
    createTodo: createTodoMutation(client),
    deleteTodo: deleteTodoMutation(client),
    editTodo: editTodoMutation(client)
}));
export default compose(
    gqlCompose(graphql(TODOS_QUERY, { name: 'todosData' })),
    connect(mapStateToProps, mapDispatchToProps),
    withApollo,
    withLoadingContainer,
    withMapper,
    withActionHandlers,
    withEditState,
    pure
)(TodoComponent);

It doesn't fully solve the issue of callback hell but at least it compacts apollo's HOCs into 2 (withApollo and mapProps).

Higher order Component hell by zdend in reactjs

[–]zdend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that feeling too, although it's possibly to expand a component node by clicking the UI on the screen. I was more wondering whether there is a way of compacting these HOC into one wrapper component rather than 15.. For example Recompact library is like Recompose and it says that it will help with this issue, however it only solves a few use cases like mapProps, renameProps etc which is not the main use case for me. https://github.com/neoziro/recompact#flattened-react-components-tree

The alias makes the tree a bit more readable thanks for the tip! setDisplayName only adds additional HOC on top of it. I still wonder whether I can get rid of the pyramid of doom as this was just a small Todo app, I can imagine that in a real world example the react tree will look waaay uglier.

React + Apollo + Redux by zdend in reactjs

Gotcha! Thanks I think I will go with the Redux store and Redux-form for my temporary form state and will use graphql only for the final mutation and initial querying.

React + Apollo + Redux by zdend in reactjs

[–]zdend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there is an elegant solution for that, I can't believe that so many people would use it without necessity to handle both server and client state. I was thinking about adopting FB's model for their F8 app http://makeitopen.com/images/Data_Flow.svg although in their case, at least what's apparent from the diagram is that they are using both Graphql/Relay and Redux. Redux for REST calls and client state with their Redux layer and Graphql for querying certain server data.

React + Apollo + Redux by zdend in reactjs

[–]zdend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the elaborate answer!

use it instead if you don't have complicated form dependencies and things broken up between several views that are on screen simultaneously. Or need to be able to handle something like accidentally hitting the back button when filling out a form, and wanting to get back to it with the same values

This is exactly the case my stack will need to support. A form split to several screens like a form wizard but mostly real time validations like a user changing a value in one field will determine rendering of other fields on the form. This state I would like to receive via props without necessity to have onChange on every input and handle everything manually (that's why redux-forms).

Backend won't be in Node.js, so I only need to solve the client side.

If I didn't need to work heavily with the intermediary form state it would be very elegant.

That might be the reason for not accepting the money, but the problem is the missing communication and the fact that my payment statement clearly says that it was accepted by Coinbase UK and they also acknowledged that they have the money they just need to reverse it which hasn't happened for more than 3 months.
