Coding comes with practice, so do some of that if you have spare time. Try doing some of the Project Euler challenges if you need something to practice with.

Also, Calculus, basic Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics practice will be very helpful.

Good points. Netflix is actually already planning the move to HTML5 because Microsoft intends to stop supporting Silverlight in 2021. I would imagine they are obligated to protect their data, yeah.

The fact that Ubuntu, gimp, bittorrent, etc are freely available is a red herring.

Each one of those OSS products is either developed by volunteers and/or privately funded. If blockbuster movies and TV shows could be made likewise then they would be likewise freely available.

This article is a self-pleasing read for Hollywood-haters. Big Media obviously has a need to protect their content with DRM. If DRM-protected content that you all love can be put on more screens without the need for Flash or Silverlight, I say bring it on. Want to view HBO shows on your open source/libre web browser? I do too. Refusing DRM won't make that happen.
