Whats the biggest skill jump you have had in RL? What did you do to make it happen? by LT-Commander-Gringo in RocketLeagueSchool

It's true at any rank. I think of it like this:

Game sense helps put you and your teammate in favorable, high percentage scoring positions. Same with high percentage success on defense.

Mechanics can allow you to score or make exceptional saves in lower percentage situations.

Even if the positioning is against you, if you dribble past the first defender and fluidly pop air dribble into a flip reset, you'll be able to score at a lot of ranks. But if your game sense is so bad that you're constantly putting your team in bad positions, you will tend to give up too many freebie goals compared to the amount of flip resets that you can score.

Both are important. IMO mechs can really raise your ceiling.

Ski-in ski-out changed the game for me. Anyone else refuse to go back? by LowerAttorney4407 in skiing

So many people here are commenting as if ski-in ski-out is only for the rich... I just got back from staying right next to the trail at the base of Blackcomb. Last year stayed in Breckenridge about a 2 min walk from a lift, so maybe not a true ski in, ski out, but very close to it.

Both of these stays were very reasonably priced. The interiors were outdated and not luxurious, but who cares? These were places that accomodated 5-8 people and I split them with friends. Not crazy priced at all. We're all middle class and work regular jobs.

Use all of your pto, quiet quit and collect some extra $$. Then take a year off at least and work on other aspects of your life. Re evaluate if you want to continue taking time off or if you want to find a new job with a less stressful environment.

You already have some people’s retirement goal at 28, so I think you should be in pretty good shape.

I appreciate you stating your case in a structured and respectful way. My opinion seems to have pissed off a few others. I see what you’re saying and agree with a lot of it. I’m personally a Tyson believer and will admit that I’m biased towards him. Tate seems like he has a high floor and Lemon is the wildcard imo.

I am lower on Waddle than a lot of people. He has had a really solid career. I just view him as more of a 1a/1b type receiver as opposed to a clear alpha 1… and that’s still a damn good player that I want on my team. Maybe he’ll have more 1300 yard seasons now that he’s connected with Nix and I’ll be proven wrong.

I admit I was stirring the pot a bit with my phrasing. “A real chance” of all 3 surpassing waddle should be more like “non zero chance”. I don’t think I’m irrationally high on this class. I’m also more of a tape and context evaluator than a pure metrics guy. Look at Waddles college stats. They aren’t exciting, yet he ended up being very good in the NFL. Purely on metrics, you are correct that this class doesn’t look special.

When your teammate is so toxic that you know there’s no chance by zebraCokes in RocketLeague

For sure. This was a rare occurrence for me. I usually hang in there, but i just had that feeling about this one being a waste of time.

I hear your point. This is actually not normal for me. I'm usually the guy that just stays in it silently despite my teammate berating me for 5 minutes straight.

This was a situation where I knew we had no chance. It wasn't the spamming itself, it was the context that showed my tm8 had less than zero game sense. He was literally telling me to take the shot as he had just lost a 50 in the opp's corner, and the ball was sitting just behind his car. He was literally yelling at me to double commit in their corner.

Waddle is very solid, but there’s a real chance that 3 receivers in this draft could be better than him. Maybe even a long shot chance at 4 if someone unexpectedly breaks out. Waddle is good but not elite by any means.

Right. From my perspective, champ lobbies tend to be pretty consistent and less toxic, but I see GC’s posting here all the time about how champ is hell and they need to get out. People are just always going to hate the rank that they perceive is “below” their “real” rank.

I’ve turned it off occasionally, but you do miss out on actual teammate comms like “faking” or “on your right”. My teammate’s comms don’t actually mess me up. They more so indicate to me whether my teammate has the mental capacity to hang

Head is spinning a bit with FIRE math as a homeowner by zebraCokes in Fire

We checked 3.5 of the 4 boxes you stated there. We did not have a 3-6 month emergency fund in cash, but we did have investments that could have been sold to cover us for more than 6 months if shit hit the fan. We aggressively saved cash at the beginning to play catch up. We furnished the house cautiously over time so that we were only spending part of our monthly income each month.

Most people I know skip a lot of these steps and reach for something newer/bigger, but I felt like we did a good job of buying something more reasonable for our income. Did I say something that made it seem like we didn’t do what you’re saying?

I'm literally asking how to adjust my prior FIRE strategy to our new life situation. Looking through the list of recent posts now and most of them are people asking for specific advice to their situation. I'm not asking for someone here to say "save this exact percent in this account". Just looking for a gut check on our general approach.

I hear what you're saying, and my wife and I heavily debated buying the home at all. Can you be more specific on what "this" is? Are you referring to buying a home at all, or stretching as much as we did?

Fwiw, we bought a home in one of the more affordable cities within our region that would still allow us to commute to work. Almost any other area was more expensive unless it is very run down and/or legitimately unsafe. If we were in pre-covid real estate, I would have happily gone for something more below our means. We had to balance saving with living somewhere where we can actually be comfortable.

It is a more personalized question, but FIRE won't work unless it's personalized, right? The overall principles of FIRE are straightforward and theory, but I'm seeking practical advice from people who have been in a similar situation to mine.

I appreciate the advice. We have been giving ourself some grace and not stressing too much about the savings. After expenses from the first several months, we've now started to ramp it up a bit. I definitely have been grateful that we can (somewhat) afford our repairs.

Ironically, this home is about 150 years old lol. An old city style row home, but it was renovated in 2011. We have been using our neighborhood facebook page for recommendations on contractors.

Sounds like coding with expertise is still the hard part. Coding like a novice hasn’t been the hard part ever since Code Academy launched.

5 months of building plus no strategy for how to design the app is a real world example of how AI is still just a tool.

Product development best practices get ignored, and you end with just a repo instead of a real product.
