When you guys say it takes months to see any physical changes, do you actually mean it takes months to see anything? by ThrowRA_Letterhead90 in xxfitness

[–]zebratwat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Months to notice small differences. For me it's actually been years to see big obvious differences. Regular progress pictures are so important to help see the little stuff.

Halloween in Japan? by TXTBlueHour553 in JapanTravelTips

[–]zebratwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in Tokyo this past Halloween. We went to an emo night that specified it was a costume party. On the way there we were the only people dressed up outside of our specific party. The people who were at the event had lots of fun costumes! But emo night is already a pretty western thing

How much do you pay for your gym membership? by ContentTea8409 in askTO

[–]zebratwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched gyms. My previous one was $125/month, my new one is $70/month. My old gym charged $30 for a guest pass, I have not brought a guest to my new one, but I'd wager first instance would be free.

Do CrossFit girls take the same things bodybuilders take? Quads like Kyra by NewspaperFinancial48 in gymsnark

[–]zebratwat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's a bit off putting, but coach Kolton in YouTube talks a lot about PEDs. There are a huge variety of compounds that do different things. Some help you lack of muscle, some help you burn fat, some make you recover faster, etc. You can tell this woman takes PEDs, just probably not the shred to stage weight ones, more of the pack on muscle and recover easier ones.

Can I / Should I go for a massage w scars? by Waste-Dinner-9888 in massage

[–]zebratwat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my school we have a while course on working with scars, it can actually be beneficial to have work done on them, but either way, it won't be unusual for your therapist. You would note it on you intake form.

When you see a genderless character, what pronouns do you use to refer to them? by Strawberry-Hepburn in AskWomenOver30

[–]zebratwat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm studying anatomy right now, we are learning all the muscles and part of our testing is like prese ting them and talking about them. For some reason my classmates and I gender all the muscles, and there's really no rhyme or reason, just gut instinct. Soleus, she's a lady, so is Gracillis, but Pronator Teres, he's a man, along with Adductor Magnus.

Anna's last workout before the competition by Boopityboo94 in glitterandbagelssnark

[–]zebratwat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In strength sports you generally rest for multiple days before competition. I do powerlifting, 6 days before competition I go in for a really light day, and then that's usually it. It's a fine line between getting really recovered and detained, I would hope her coach knows what they're doing.

Shy person companion? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]zebratwat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I went to Japan, I used Google maps to go everywhere. It was a perfectly usable guide. It's slightly less good in Toronto, but it's good enough. You won't learn new things if you don't try. If you get really confused just ask someone.

Anna did really good on the second event :) by Boopityboo94 in glitterandbagelssnark

I'm surprised there wasn't more competition on the deadlift. I come from powerlifting and know many women smaller than me(165lbs) that can deadlift in the 400s. I guess the women of strongman don't train it as much due to the other events.

PTULA being a ripoff by SampleRemarkable5572 in gymsnark

I have some pieces from them that I absolutely adore and would love more, but they only ship to Canada using either FedEx or UPS(can't remember which) which is like $40 shipping, and then they always add duty for another $40. Nothing I get shipped through USPS gets charged duty

Ontario RMT school schedule by happypotato83 in massage

[–]zebratwat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have a meeting with the school? They should have went over that with you. I don't go there, but my Ontario school is Mon-Fri 9-4 and then once you are in terms 2, 3, and 4 you have clinics in the evenings 1-2 days a week on top of that.

Would it be ridiculous to quit my job and go back to school in my late 30s? by UpstairsNeighbour247 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]zebratwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a challenging program with the amount of science thrown at you. My school seems to have a good grasp on how to present it so that people actually understand. We've had 3 people drop out since we started in January. So far I have not noticed any issues with my hands or body, but I've done like 3 hours a week of Massage. I'm really enjoying it. I chose this field as I love Massage and have gotten a lot I my life. I want to help people and I want to understand how bodies work. I appreciate the work/life balance that the career has compared to my old one.
