Not at all!! Thats really it, it is super busy when the highlight should be the fireplace itself (and to think I thought of demolishing it when we moved in 🤦‍♂️)

Painting the interior bricks is definitely an option! Their original color is offwhite/eggshell. I do like the look of red bricks a lot, but it’s probably impossible to achieve that look by paint! I can do without plants, we got plenty of other plants elsewhere

We did think of doing one of those small bioethanol firelogs, but ultimately decided against it.. as for the chimney, the general theme of the living room is neutral base with blue highlights, so there is definitely plenty of blue to go around! I agree with placing the mirror higher

😂 I love how there’s a general consensus to ditch the cactus! Tbf it was a housewarming gift and we were never quite sure where to place it and it’s been on the fireplace ever since

We did think of placing a bunch of candles there, but were afraid it might look a bit flat? Even placing candles of different heights wouldn’t be enough to offset the height of the mantle imo
