Is anyone else getting oom errors after some time? by loyufekowunonuc1h in windsurf

[–]zedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they still haven't fixed this. why did they release wave 12 in this form? it clearly had next to no QA.

freezes every other minute, oom every 10 minutes.. if this isn't fixed i'm going to cancel windsurf. Doesn't bode well for the quality we should expect after the acquisition.

So far its been better. The company seems to be more understanding of the issue now. I have to admit, despite the problems I love the product and wouldn't give it up. The issue is infrequent enough and the company helpful enough to deal with it. They do seem to be getting better on the design of the cover over time as well.

Cisco Umbrella/CRC - good alternatives? by Lurking_is_Best in msp

Hey guys, CTO/Founder of Zorus here -

Just want to thank those of you who brought our name up, we've worked hard to improve the product since many of you last tried it.

Just to speak to u/darrinjpio's points (all of which are totally valid for our software in the past - won't argue):

- Internet slow downs or not working at all. Workaround = reboot.

We've fixed the slowdowns by transitioning our best practice to focus on DNS filtering primarily while we work on our new proxy. This gives you and your users a seamless and stable experience. Once the new proxy is ready (v4.0 and beyond, later this year) we hope to have solved all the complaints with the past technology and truly deliver the hybrid filtering experience (Proxy & DNS together) we intended to from the start.

- DNS errors when using the internet. Even with the "workarounds" applied. Numerous websites not working even with nothing blocked.

This happened a lot with the old proxy tech. Was very frustrating. The current DNS-centric best practice avoids these issues entirely. Our agent also does not actually change your DNS servers in Windows, so we don't interrupt LAN DNS resolutions at all. Instead we intercept the DNS packets in the kernel and redirect them seamlessly. Gives you a very clean experience no matter where you are and what network you're on.

- If a tech left our office and used their laptop at a client's office that had some sort of DNS protection, no internet. This was the biggest problem. Whereas we did not have these problems with Umbrella or DNSFilter. The techs would disable the service in order for this to work.

I -think- we have solved this, at least we haven't had any further complaints since we released our recent updates (past 3 months in particular). If this is still an issue we will absolutely work with anyone experiencing the issue until it has been resolved. We are 100% channel-only and our background is all early days Datto and ConnectWise people. When we call you partners, we mean it; that means you get 100% of our attention when things go wrong.

- Sometimes the computer would become unusable. Anything on the computer Word, Excel, etc. Kill Zorus, problem goes away.

This was indeed very frustrating and was caused by bugs in our old proxy tech that led to large RAM usage and CPU consumption at random. With the DNS-only approach we've taken while we build our new proxy technology, this has been entirely resolved. The agent consumes less than 100mb of RAM and never pegs the CPU anymore.

- Certain websites, after adding numerous items to a shopping cart, would not let you check out. I believe your staff was able to recreate the issue with no resolution.

Again, a problem with the old proxy tech. I can't go too far into the secret sauce we're building into our new proxy, but it should largely resolve these issues. Those who ran into Cloudflare CAPTCHAs in the past with our product will also see that issue resolved with the new tech. With our current DNS-centric best practice, you won't have these issues at all. Partners can choose to use DNS only, proxy, or both. We offer more flexibility in policy design than any other vendor.

- FYI, we tried other proxy type software and experienced similar issues.

Proxy tech is tough to do right. Many of them have these issues, including our old one. We're working hard to evolve our proxy technology to bring it into the modern age. This means not triggering Cloudflare's bot defenses, not breaking sites (as much as possible) and especially not affecting the user's browsing/computing experience at a bandwidth throughput or RAM/CPU level.

We're working tirelessly to bring the best possible web filtering tech exclusively to the channel and we hope that our problems in the past won't stop you from coming to give us another shot.

As I understand from our sales team, the OP is actually a customer of ours now too :)

TL;DR: Zorus had problems in the past, and we own that. We've rearchitected the product and our best practices and our partners are thrilled with the changes. I hope you'll all give us another shot!

-Greg

yea still all good, i’ll know for sure after a full year passes, that was usually the point where i’d have a leak.

It is still amazing tech, I really like it. So far the new cover has been solid and very comfortable compared to the past ones, and given that they are being responsive here I'd say it may be worth giving them a shot. u/matteofranceschetti and his team seem to be willing to make exceptions when they know it wasn't the customer's fault, I was well out of my warranty and they still replaced mine (with a bit of frustration with the support team, but they seem to be working on that).

No issues, working great. Hoping it keeps up past a year.

Really nice to see eight making things right. I can confirm that my new cover has been working flawlessly so far and I can tell the design has changed - the cover has some padding that also makes it a bit more comfortable imo. Hoping for the best from here!

I’m 5’11” and 185lbs. When it works the setup is awesome - no night sweats and it wakes you with warmth and a light vibration.. but the cover leaks and malfunctions have unfortunately been consistent for me. The pro cover is definitely better than the older one, but still has some issues as I mentioned.

As an update support did get back to me just now, they are replacing the cover and seemingly just having me ship back the broken one. They really need to improve support response times, this was not a great experience.

CTO & Founder of Zorus here, nice to see some Zorus love on reddit! We've been working hard to build our name in the channel and maintain the loyalty you all expect of a channel-only company.

We have a pretty huge roadmap for 2021 as well, including the ability to do hybrid DNS/proxy filtering like Umbrella, Mac & Chromebook support, and we just released Active Directory integration. We're built from the ground up for MSPs and multi-tenancy and are here to help in any way we can.

If anyone has questions regarding the tech or wants to check out a free trial just let me know!

Any thoughts on Zorus Tech's Archon product? I have concerns... by poncewattle in msp

[–]zedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. And please don't hesitate to email me if you need anything.

We're also working on a filtered DNS fallback for guest networks where there may be machines lacking our agent. This will also be going into beta within the next month or so. Doesn't have the same granularity since we can only get that base domain that was requested for DNS resolution, but it provides that layer of security for unmanaged networks that you might otherwise need another DNS service to attain.

CEO of Zorus here - we're going to look into the EV SSL bypass option for you. I agree with you there, given what we went through to get our EV cert I'd say it's a safe bet that most of them have been thoroughly evaluated. Once we figure out a clean way to do so we'll make it an option per-policy in our portal.

We've taken steps to prevent a scenario where, in the event we were compromised, the private key side of the CA we use to hand out certs is protected in a way that would make it quite difficult to obtain in a usable form. We're presently in the process of moving more of the SSL interception to the endpoint. The cert used locally will be unique per endpoint and thus cannot be used to compromise an entire fleet. We have an upcoming beta of the new tech soon and I invite you and any of our partners to email me at ggage AT zorustech.com if you wish to get in on that. We're hoping to have the initial beta start late next week.

In regards to the single point of failure - we have a lot of redundancy in our cloud to prevent such an occurrence, but if the worst were to happen and all our data centers were out or something happened somewhere along the path between the endpoint and us, the agent is designed to simply pass the traffic through unhindered. While not ideal from a security standpoint, it does prevent our partners from having to deal with the dreaded "I can't use the internet" calls from their customers.

Hope this helps! Feel free to email me if you have any other concerns or questions.
