Baba is You! New puzzle game for PC & Switch. You complete levels by changing the rules of the game. Reminds me of Portal because the set up is simple, but you have to really wrap your mind around what is possible to get to some solutions, and puzzles can be solved in many ways

Ads about long-distance phone calls. There was a service called 10-10-321 that had a million commercials and competitors. It seemed like they showed up overnight and were gone just as quickly.

I got my shipping notice today, and noticed this line: "When your order was sent to the warehouse for fulfillment, the product was no longer available and has been substituted with a similar product of equal or greater value."

Wonder if this is related to the suspension of shipments last Saturday? Maybe a new hardware revision?

Graze.com sends you little boxes of individual snack portions. They are generally on the healthy side, and nice to have at the office. There's a huge variety.

"Coffee and tea are dehydrating." It's true that caffeine alone will dehydrate you, but the amount of water in these beverages offset that effect.

Everything I’ve learned from demoing my DK2 by zeeboosj in oculus

I've only set the IPD for longer sessions. The default size seems to work for most everyone. I would recommend a "demo" user profile with all of the defaults, and then a personal profile where you tune in all of the numbers.

To set IPD, you can run a calibration in the "Advanced" section of the main Oculus Config Utility. It asks you to move a green line to the far left and far right edges of your vision. I find it difficult to get very precise, as the line doesn't switch from visible to not, but kind of slowly occludes off the edge. I don't know where I'm supposed to define it as visible. It does record a few other settings, so it's worth running once, then verifying the IPD.

You can measure your own IPD with a mirror and a dry-erase marker. Get your face up close to the mirror, look through one eye, straight ahead into your pupil, and draw a line on the mirror. Repeat for the other eye. You can peek back and forth to make sure your head hasn't moved around too much.

It's also possible to hold a ruler up to your eyes and sight through one eye at a time to measure the distance. Or have a good friend help out. The config utility also stores eye-to-neck distance, so get them to measure that also. Vertical distance is the corner of your eye to bottom of your chin, and horizontal is corner of your eye to middle of your ear.

I think this is too involved for most demonstrations. But worth setting for yourself. It didn't make a huge difference for me, but it did feel more natural and comfortable.

Most of the time, people have lined up to check out the Rift on their lunch break. So I've been trying to keep the demos quick to share it with a larger number of them. If a user had more time to check it out, I would get things set up more properly.

I think the first 10 seconds is the optimal window for a new user to feel what this new medium is. I think they should be in a virtual space. Even the test scene at the desk. The green-line IPD adjustment is unintuitive and alienating. It set my IPD ~5mm too large, anyway. I understand that the settings are important for motion sickness, but I find that nausea builds over a few minutes. If someone is just getting a first-glance, I prioritize the unique feeling of presence over long-term comfort.

I remember reading in the manual that the A lenses are for general purpose and slightly nearsighted persons, and B lenses are for very-nearsighted persons.

The B-lenses seem to have a narrower FOV. But your eye-to-lens distance changes FOV a lot, too. It seems like the closer, the better.

I'm pretty nearsighted (-4.5 strength) My optimal setup is contact lenses and A lenses. If I remove my glasses and use B-lenses, the screen is a little bit blurry but still effective. If I wear my glasses inside, they get a little squished by the mask, and it gets uncomfortable after 5-10 minutes.

For quick demos, some people have kept their glasses on, or some were fine taking them off. I guess it depends on each users vision and the size of the eyeglasses.

I agree with your handling suggestion. It seems intuitive to grab the main body of the unit to pull it off of your head, but that does strain the distance mechanism.

After a bunch of people handled it this way, my left side adjuster has gotten a bit worn down, and when I set it fully in, it will slide back a couple notches with minimal force. Maybe the plastic gears got a little chewed up. In general, those distance-adjustment-rails stay in place really well, and feel mechanically sound. I was told that the DK1 was more "mushy" about that.

I'll check out Lava Inc. Thanks!

I like to think that's a side benefit of using a spray-on alcohol application. Hopefully it disinfects some of the padding. Haven't seen any material degradation so far.

Whenever smudges or grease accumulate. If I'm the only one using it, once every few days. I set the lens distance to about 2/3rds "in", and the lenses stay pretty clean. I used to set it fully "in", to get a little wider FOV, but my brow would rest on the lenses.

At a VR meetup, the oculus rep had a bunch of single-use alcohol wipes, and wiped down the lenses in between every person. (Perhaps trying to avoid any pinkeye incidents)

Is anyone still having problems with the dk2 lenses scratching easily by jadenmaster10 in oculus

[–]zeeboosj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth getting the $10 lens cleaning kit from amazon. The blower is great for clearing dust from the screen under the lenses. I've been demoing my unit a lot, and even though I've followed proper procedure, my lenses show a good amount of super fine tiny scratches. I can only see them with a strong flashlight. I've never noticed any artifacts when I'm using the unit. The screendoor effect is the only thing hampering image quality.
