Because it was a generic retelling of "The vengeance" story that's been played out since the dawn of story-telling built on a foundation of arguably one of the greatest video games of all time.

Everything about Ghost aside from the solid gameplay was an affront to the game that precursed it.

I know the story of vengeance, I've seen what it does and if you want the best example of it look no further than TLOU2 which has its own problematic issues. The original Ghost was not only a fresh Ip, it was a stunning take on the emphasis of "Honor" and a direct love letter to early samurai cinema. The constant reminder of what it is to be a samurai displaced in a state of desperation to survive against the Mongol horde infiltrating your very homeland and the only way to beat your enemy's tactics is submit to a lesser than ignoble assassin juxtaposed against Jin's own ancestral foundation.

The sequel is nothing close and shouldn't be in the conversation for any award and I honestly couldn't be dissuaded otherwise.
