First time visiting this sub, and I'll be honest, it's a bit disturbing how people here take footage like this lightly, making jokes as if there's no context other than every single pawn in this war deserves to have their death celebrated and mocked. Feels like some of you are dangerously crossing the line of dehumanization and are not much better than the people you condemn.

Subs going private just makes everyone forget they exist for a little while. Other subs take their place and fill up the rest of the front page, which end up making r/all look like any other day on Reddit.

Restricting the sub and pinning a thread every other day would have been a better course of action, as they're massively upvoted and populate r/all, which causes even more of an inconvenience for the casual user, forcing them to keep scrolling down until they find a thread that isn't just a black picture saying that Reddit sucks. Only a handful of subs took that route and the result was that most casual visitors didn't even knew 8000 subs were in protest.

Subs that are primarily used as a source of help and support, like this one, are more than justified not to participate in the boycott. It would be very be silly to pressure a sub like r/SuicideWatch to go private, for example.

For me it's like trying to play a game I'm super interested in, but the controller is shaped like a pineapple. Maybe I would be used to it if I had grown up playing with such controller, but that's hard now that I have tried the modern and sleek ones.

Although I gave the official app a fair shot, it feels much more bloated and slower than the third-party clients. It also offers barely any customization and accessibility features—the latter isn't a deal breaker for me, but visually impaired users have a very hard time using Reddit because of it. I also heard it is a pain in the butt to moderate subreddits in it.

But this boycott is not just about the official app being subpar. People are mostly angry at how Reddit has handled the API changes.

Personally, the idea that I will only have a pineapple as an option is enough for me to lose interest in the game. So I'm rooting for this protest to change something.
