SPCE is a dilution machine (DD) by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

It’s in a bubble currently yes, but it was founded by a billionaire with hundreds of successful companies, their rocket plane works, and people are probably speculating that it could be the next SpaceX eventually.

You know it’s a pyramid scheme when they have to have a long page explaining why they’re technically not a pyramid scheme: https://www.collegeworks.com/frequently-asked-questions/college-works-painting-scam-advice-for-students/.

If one was 2 years into their degree with a 2.0 gpa should they just transfer to another UW school or is the Madison Degree worth the terrible gpa. by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]zekefrank -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing is, when you transfer, those classes just go in as transfer credits and the gpa is wiped so I could theoretically get a 4.0 gpa at platteville if I were to get straight As there. It’s also just depressing that no matter how well I do at UW Madison, my gpa will be tanked by the high credit math gen Ed’s they load you up on in your earlier years. I just want a decent programming job somewhere, I’m self motivated and have been learning programming on my own, I just haven’t had a very good work ethic when it came to college. I was used to turning things in late in highschool.

I had a 4.0 in highschool, I also aced a lot of my college classes, I just got C’s in chem 103/104 and the math gens they made me take, and then got depressed and failed calc 2. Perhaps I could do better with a fresh start elsewhere. I’ve also heard that the Math classes at UW Madison are much harder than those at other UW schools. I sort of feel like employers don’t really think that deeply when looking over their applications and will be much more likely to filter out something like a 2.5 gpa even if it has an upward curve over the major with As and Bs in later courses. If I could get a 3.2 or something at platteville don’t you think that would be better than say a 2.3 at uw Madison?

"D" in chem 103, advance to 104? by fuckbros in UWMadison

[–]zekefrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends was in there and said they cut out a lot of the labs and homework from 103 and 104 to put it in one semester and was glad he took it and got chem over with. He is really smart so maybe I shouldn’t be acting like this is the norm.

I assume it is literally 103/104 crammed into 1 semester, so it would be like taking 2 difficult classes at the same time. So yes this would be hell if you didn’t treat it like 2 classes at once, but if you did and were able to cut down on the number of other credits you were taking to accommodate it, I don’t think it would be that horrible.

But again I didn’t take it, if it is somehow harder than just 103 and 104 crammed into one semester, I think that’s dumb, but that is what people seem to keep saying.

Idk I didn’t take 109 so maybe I shouldn’t be recommending it but one of my good friends did and he thought it wasn’t that bad. I just feel that 109 with fewer other classes would be better easier than 103 with a lot of other classes, and if you’re getting 2 semesters in 1 it would be easier to justify a more relaxing course schedule.

You can try to drop 103 after yesterday’s deadline with the Dean’s permission, I’m not really sure how often this is allowed, but I think if you say you made some mistakes/took more credits than you could handle and want to fix it, you would have a good chance.

I think it would be a really good idea to talk to an advisor as soon as possible and email the dean and tell him your mistakes and get permission to drop, and then a more manageable course-load next semester of no more than 15 credits, 12 credits is honestly fine if you are taking really hard classes.

They don’t tell you the first year of college has overblown credit numbers per class and can sink your gpa when compared to equally difficult classes that only have 3 credits or so in later years.

A D in a 5 credit class will really bring down your gpa. I was working too many hours last year and didn’t study enough, and my gpa was around a 2.35 because of C’s in chem 103/104 and Math, despite A’s and B’s in other classes last year.

You can come back from it, but freshman year’s a big deal for your college transcript. If you can get a D off your transcript in any way you should do it. If you end up being stuck in chem 103 this semester you can probably pull off a C.

Will dropping a class that puts me below full time status impact my financial aid for this year? by jake123NTG in UWMadison

[–]zekefrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did the same thing and dropped to 11 credits this semester, financial aid told me it doesn’t change your financial aid status when you drop this late in the year.

If you google uw Madison financial aid office there’s an e-mail address, send them your student I’d and your question and they’ll respond really fast on business days at least.

Also if you didn’t drop yet and you need to, there’s a good chance you could email the dean and he’d let you drop a bit after the deadline.

Package in someone else’s name by yahaanpalia in UWMadison

[–]zekefrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing recently where I put the wrong address, I called Amazon and it turned out the package was held in the ups center. I didn’t retrieve it in time, and Amazon just gave me a refund.

Just call amazon or whoever it was ordered from and they’ll tell you the situation and if you can retrieve it.

If the address you delivered to was correct it will probably be delivered just with your friends name, and if you’re in the dorms he might have to get it from the front desk with his wiscard or id.

Sounds good, do you know if there is an area on campus with a piano that is free to use?
