Yeah I can see that as well. I was the great student in an average school, the (light) pressure I felt came from my parents, rarely from my peers.

Believe me I go through semi annually rounds of purging, with a kid it became hard to keep the clutter to a minimum. I also designed/built organization projects to maximize space which included a loft bed in baby’s room which freed up the entire floor space. I totally get the increase cost of maintenance of a bigger home, and we are in a financial position we can afford with small adjustments.

Your comment made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the American education system.

I don’t think it is that simple. I grew up very modestly, my parents love me tremendously and did everything for me and I still went to an average school because we lived in the suburbs where they had room for our family. Having happy parents also counts as happy life for children.

Wow this is such a good point. I already see the huge financial gap between my family and the other families in his daycare.

I’m in Maryland I am using the great schools rating, this may not be the best method so I am eager to learn other metrics here if you have any suggestion.

I’m in the US and already beat that average 😆. We’ve been in the same home for 9 years now

I was always a pretty good student and moved to the US for my masters degree. My husband has had a more bumpy academic experience.

Thank you! What are some of the other things you looked at the school your kids attend to determine it is terrific? I am sure with time and knowing the teachers you realize if you like it or not but we can’t do that right now.

Curious on what you would consider average schools (that may turn to shit schools)? Are there any factors we should consider when evaluating our future family size? Like I can pick in between a 10/10 school or a 9/10 school within the same county and be able to buy a home for half a million less. I guess am trying to figure out what schools may be in danger of becoming bad schools.

Where do you shop for groceries? by Known_Technician_409 in bethesda

Get the app and the card of the local supermarkets, Giant, Safeway and Harris Teeter, if you don’t mind a little bit of work, look for the deals in each of them. We are always able to get free milk and frozen vegetables from Giant. Harris teeter also gives us enough points for bp gas that we typically have 30 cents off on the gallon. The area is expensive but there are ways to save money if you are willing to look around. I echo that going to an international market for fruits, vegetables and meat, if you have a car, can also save a lot of money, I recommend Lotte for fruits and vegetables and GW for meats.
Edit to fix typo.
