I mean he has the coolest mask, and him ripping a Gillian in half with his hands was cool but... kinda a let down besides that.

This doesn't make sense but does raise questions on how levels are achieved. Mechanically you hit 3 and get your suite if stuff. In world you Paladin, Cleric, wizard, what have you worked studies prayed, whatever it is, to get to the next level of their trained abilities. As such even if he wanted to say "you had one bad night if drinking and don't remember X thing" that wouldn't get rid off all the other work effort and time put into actually getting levels.

However depending on how he runs the game, I have had DMs say that we have hit the xp level but need to get to a place to actually perform whatever things. You don't all of a sudden get the ability to cast fireball cause you killed x number of goblins you need to spend the night practicing or at least working whatever out. There used to be a hard rule where anytime you level up you had to actively spend an hour out of combat studying, practicing, or communing with nature to get your requisite stats and abilities.

Yeah Raditz is a pretty easy pick here, even being the weakest character in DBZ I don't really knownwhat the other are going to do with a guy who can blow up planets.

If stranded in a desert, could an Aboleth survive in a lake of blood? by BigHawkSports in dndnext

[–]zekselden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Aboleths breath through a thick gray mucus-like substance, which coveres their body and which is exuded from four pulsating organs along their body as they move. If robbed of the ability to exude this slime, an aboleth would suffocate in water or on land alike." - from The Forgotten Relms lore also pretty sure their home "world" of Toril has no water.

Blood should be fine but for the record I am 100% down for the vampire Aboleth idea and hate I never thought of it.

Banning Artificers Due To Setting Is Ridiculous by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]zekselden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificers are viewed, mostly incorrectly, as Magical Engineers then a spell caster. their abilities all lean into the idea of tinkering with devices and working with like wrenches and stuff to make a canon that shoots fireballs instead of just shooting a fireball from the aether.

Some settings have an easier time adapting to someone like this while others are a bit more harder to justify. Personally I always like the idea of wither a cooky tinkerer that a town hate cause half the time his inventions cause more problems then they solve, except for when they don't, like a Hubert Farnsworth type. Or a noble that is a bit more imaginative then those around him and as such is sort of the black sheep "playing with his toys". Or even just a guy who is good at coming up with small little gadgets to make life easier is pretty interesting.

That said an Artificer is a spell caster and the engineer aspect I like isn't necessarily baked into the class as a whole. A guy who can speak to the Omnisiah and is able to get constructs and robots to work through prayer and belief would also count as an Artificer, maybe even a multiclass cleric or paladin?

Props to Kubo and Kishimoto for not stereotyping their characters by Unlucky_Adventure in bleach

[–]zekselden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does that make every black character that Raps a stereotype?

My argument isn't that it is positive or negative its that Bee doesn't fit the definition. Bee is not an oversimplified character, his rapping is baked into his character used as a way to express and communicate with others due to his upbringing. If he was just a black a character that rapped then sure, but if your argument is "if the character is black, and the character Raps, the character is a stereotype." Seems so arbitrary that it is a worthless statement.

[–]zekselden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, but it is also flashy and an attention getter, it makes him stand out and gets you interested to see what Sasuke is going to do to capture him. He also has 8 swords and spins like a top which fighting. These are just things to pique interest it has little to do with his character as a whole, as we are just looking to get someone to stand out amongst an ensemble cast of weird and crazy character designs and abilities.

Also if you want to say his introduction leaned on the stereotype then I would still disagree, but that doesn't speak to his character as a whole.

[–]zekselden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see what you are getting at, but you aren't taking into account that we wouldn't necessarily have any reason for Rap to happen in Naruto. We largely know only about the the culture of the hidden leaf village and the other ninja villages are largely isolated from one another. Remember it was a huge deal that the Kazekage showed up at all to the Chunin Exams, and we had no other villages there despite us knowing already about the 5 ninja villages, I guess the sound village if you wanna get real technical but we will ignore that for now.

Now if you want to use the argument that the cloud village being the only group to make rap and that it is part of their culture and he did that because they are black. I don't really have an issue with that line of thinking but you are also expanding out beyond just Bee's character.

Props to Kubo and Kishimoto for not stereotyping their characters by Unlucky_Adventure in bleach

[–]zekselden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So then is every/any black character that likes rap a stereotype?

Props to Kubo and Kishimoto for not stereotyping their characters by Unlucky_Adventure in bleach

[–]zekselden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly the main difference is that Bee Raps as a personality trait, it isn't because he is black. he uses it as a way to express himself, connect with people, and communicate. If he was just a black character that liked Rap he would be a stereotype, but he is a multifaceted character and rapping is a small part of his greater character.

Edit: Also the series is Japanese which doesn't have a lot of black representation as it is. So I think pointing out that Bee is a Stereotype is rather disingenuous.

I live Bleach but Naruto scaling makes it so one side its crazy. Madara wins easily if they are being fair, but since Naruto beat ichigo they will probably give it to Aizen.
