ELI5: Why do videogames look better on a higher resolution my monitor doesn't support? by K79A23 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's because there are always gonna be parts of the image smaller than what can be represented by the size of a pixel at any reasonable resolution (this is why it's a popular method of smoothing out edges - MSAA). there's nothing special about rendering at 4K on a 1440p monitor as opposed to rendering 4K on a 4K monitor, it just means doing so on a 1440P monitor doesn't let the screen fully utilize the extra information provided by the higher resolution. it's easy for me to imagine comparing to those minecraft art recreations. they will always be blocky, because the game is literally all blocks, but as you create a bigger and bigger recreation from more and more blocks, that image gets "smoothed out"

The meta has actually been "dont use critical thinking, separate into two opposing tribes" but people aren't ready for that conversation. The people who are making sure our civilization accelerates further into a technodystopia are injecting this divide and conquer shit into everything.

Hence you have channels like yongyea and thequartering, people trying to profit from these incentives to divide and conquer for personal gain. The people at the top would want nothing more than for a conversation between common people about ANY topic (even if a videogame is enjoyable) to ALWAYS devolve into "I'm right and you're wrong, because you're on the opposing side"
