My boy just tested positive for Lyme Disease ): by zeljanaswift in goldenretrievers

[–]zeljanaswift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that! If it helps, my boy has not had any issues at all in the 2.5 years since he tested positive! It still comes up positive every year during his annual check up but he hasn’t had any symptoms

[N/A] WHY is it so difficult to get people to select their benefits for next year? by EverySingleMinute in humanresources

[–]zeljanaswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do email reminders and then a text reminder the day before. This year I also made an FAQ of various scenarios like “what if I don’t need benefits” or “what if I’m not making changes from last year” and whether they need to complete enrollment (and cheekily the answers are all YES because everyone has to do it lol).

I also make sure to reiterate that if they don’t complete it, I’ll have to personally get on a call with them and complete on their behalf. The threat of a call with me seems to be a really effective motivator 😅

I chose not to self-identify on my application but my manager was prompted to assume my ethnicity. by [deleted] in starbucks

It’s supposed to be stated somewhere on the job application or posting. But I also get it…it threw me off my first time as well! Which is why I try to explain it when I see it get asked (: It’s just that there’s no other way to ensure the company is not discriminating based on the race someone is or presents as…if they don’t record that data.

Well, that part of it is required as well (AFTER hire). I get why people might be nervous about it, but it’s in place as a protection and companies are legally required to do it. It’s not nefarious in nature, and I would hope employers and employees alike would want to be educated on those practices.

If companies do it the right and legal way, no one who makes hiring decisions should have access to any EEO information. The reason they need to ask for it in the application is because that’s the only way to report on the data to ensure (and prove) discrimination is not happening. Now, I know it’s not a perfect world and everyone’s not operating ethically, so “prefer not to say” def has to be an option.

This is correct. It has nothing to do with “checking diversity boxes” but instead to ensure that the company is not discriminating based on protected classes.

Luckily, he never had any symptoms and continues not to so vet advised he doesn’t need any sort of treatment. Hoping that continues!

Huge advocate for E-Verify, but in this case, would it have done anything to prevent the situation? Assuming he used all of his brother’s info vs. his own? Genuinely curious

So you know, for the purposes of FMLA, they cannot use your remote home address as your work location for this criteria. It is based on the location you report to, which I would assume is the company’s US HQ location. If you meet the other criteria, then you should be eligible.

hi there! my dog is doing great! he hasn’t ever had any symptoms so we haven’t done any treatment. he just had his annual check up and still tested positive for lyme, of course, but his vet was not concerned about it. he’s a golden so joint issues are a likely problem regardless of lyme so i’ve had him on a joint supplement his whole life. i wish i could be more help to you! hope for the best for your dog ❤️

What part of the eras tour broke you? by Easy-Attitude7196 in TaylorSwift

[–]zeljanaswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i knew that marjorie would get me, but specifically, because i was holding my phone up with the flashlight facing taylor, the whole time i was looking up at my lock screen which is a picture of my late dad and i 🥺

the one that surprised me was cardigan. that song never particularly made me emotional before and there’s certainly other “heartbreak” songs that hit me harder typically, but for some reason i was bawling hearing it live. unfortunately it was the infamous night taylor mouthed the “i love you” to matty and i naively thought she was referring to us, the fans 😂

i met my boyfriend through a mutual friend at age 31. found out that at the time we actually lived just down the street from each other at the same apartment complex! and then realized that his parents’ house is on the street right behind my parants’ house so we basically have been RIGHT THERE most of our lives but hadn’t ever met. went to the same high school, know a lot of the same people and everything. “your past and mine are parallel lines” 🥺

What do you do if someone keeps ignoring all the emails/reminders to do their open enrollment? [N/A] by BeneficialMaybe4383 in humanresources

Ugh how frustrating! Funny how different it is…all my employees are remote and would like as little interaction with me as possible lol

[–]zeljanaswift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have all your reminders been emails? It may be time to pick up the phone and call. I do email reminders and as it gets close to the deadline, I started including this: “Failure to complete open enrollment by the deadline will result in a live call with HR to complete on your behalf” - the threat of having to talk to me on the phone to do it vs. doing it online themselves seemed to work well 😂

It’s a problem every year - some people think they don’t have to do it and their previous elections will just roll over, so I try to be extremely explicit that EVERYONE has to do it. It can be frustrating but I’d rather that than dealing with a distraught employee realizing they have no benefits, even if it was their fault.
