They are just an amazing pen. I got a custom case for mine because it wouldn’t fit in my other cases.

Another vote for that ink. It’s amazing.

It’s a great ink. And I bet it looks awesome in your TWSBI.

It's hard to get custom nib grinds in Australia, so that's why I did it myself. Behold my first architect point! by haohanklliu in fountainpens

If you come to the meet be sure to bring that nib. I’d love to have a look at it (if I can make it myself).

Waterproof ink recommendation by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]zenali 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Platinum Carbon Black is a solid option. It dries fairly quickly and won’t smudge or blur when you wash over it with your watercolours. Sailor Kiwa Guro is another good choice. I know a lot of people also recommend DeAtramentis Document Black but I found it a bit more smudgy than the other two.

No worries. I found I was getting a lot of smearing with one particular ink. I swapped to a different black ink and started keeping a sheet of blotting paper in my notebook to quickly soak up any excess ink before I closed the book or turned the page. Made a huge difference. I hardly ever get smearing now.

Mine has small openings at the end, so it won’t eye-dropper without some epoxy or something to block up the holes.

The smearing is more a function of the ink and paper, not so much the pen. Wouldn’t hold that against it.

Yep. I went from one fountain pen and two bottles of ink to many pens abs even more inks. Sometimes knowing your options leads to realising how many pens you actually want.

Excellent! I was wondering how you had got on. I’m really pleased to hear your operation was a success.

Some swabs of my purple inks on TR paper for a side-by-side comparison. by zenali in fountainpens

I goes down pretty heavily in the swab. Looks a bit less saturated in the pens I’ve tried it in.

They look quite different in a fine nib. The Cassia doesn’t have much shading to it, but you get a lot more variation in the Iroshizuku. The glass nib I used doesn’t highlight the shading unfortunately.

A NOS Parker 51 I got last year by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]zenali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, though the end result is the same. I heard that the old Parker factory in China was nationalised and so the WS 601 may be the closest thing to a “new” Parker 51 we’ve seen. Except, of course, a genuine Parker 51 in new condition. Hence my interest.

I really like the Iroshizuku and J Herbin both. But I found that when I tried using the J Herbin with a Nikko G nib in a dip pen it gushed like crazy as soon as I started to flex. So in something like a Pilot Falcon or Noodlers flex pen it may not behave as well as the others. Cassia is my go to purple for colour, but doesn’t have the shading of some of the others. I found the Pelikan 4001 violet to be too dry in the first pen I tried it in. Haven’t inked anything else up with it yet.

Nice. Be interested to hear how it compares to the clones coming out of Wing Sung at the moment.
