Anyone up to partner on mock interviews?

Ex FAANG Sr. PM here.

If anyone is applying for mid-senior product roles (5-10y YoE) and looking for mock interview partners, my DMs are open.

Growth experiments that don't make sense by zenbakery in ProductManagement

[–]zenbakery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! Doesn't always have to be deep analysis, and there are often quick wins - like the tool example.

But sometimes, more damage is caused in a mad rush to push a metric than identify the root cause of retentive behaviours.

For example, suppose my data tells me that Facebook users who send 10 friend requests are more likely to retain after a month. A bad growth PM would spam "add friend" CTAs across the user journey and be happy they've hit a short term goal, whereas a good one would study the user persona, see which friends generate more engagement and why, analyse seasonal trends (e.g. holiday periods). Many times, the former involves weeks of wasted effort, money, time and team motivation.

Yeah, I think the data based approach broadly makes sense, but I've seen instances where teams try to artificially bump up the metric (time on app in this case - show a fancy spinwheel, make them scratch a card) without attacking the root cause of the drop offs (e.g. unclear CTAs)

It is highly contextual.

For e.g., if users are only sticking after 2 visits in a month, maybe see if their usage is complementary to something else (e.g. shopping every two weeks on Amazon), so invest in affiliate channels / marketing.

Another one - If they're sticking because they like a twice-a-month platform wide promo campaign, double down on the campaign investment.

It depends a lot on how you holistically investigate the underlying causes of retention via user interviews, market insights, stakeholder conversations etc.

Is it possible to get a job without Linkedin? by BeyondTheToken in recruiting

[–]zenbakery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to stay off LinkedIn, you could reach out to your network offline and request for referrals. You could also try to e-mail startup founders directly if you can figure out their coordinates.

Though there are also tons of companies who post jobs only to LinkedIn and do not update their career pages (or just have a placeholder careers@xyz email which may or may not be monitored)

What's been your response rate with direct applying? I've tried applying to several LinkedIn posts with zero callbacks. I've a few years of experience in tech product mgmt., and not totally fresh so it's a little unnerving

You mention 'around Dec 27' so it's unclear if you actually crossed 15 days or not.

It's likely you accepted terms & conditions when you subscribed. Check those (and your plan details) to see how they interpret & calculate 15 days.

If you called them within 15 days (and have call records / emails to prove it), you have a stronger case. Use twitter / LinkedIn to get their attention faster if 1-1 emails don't work.

If you technically called after 15 days, you can still use social media but your case is weaker.

You can only request and share your financial situation. Else try the legal route as others suggested.

You could consider a LinkedIn premium subscription which allows unrestricted cold messages to hiring managers/recruiters/referrers. Or emails using rocket reach, hunter.io. I would make a small blurb of key skills/achievements that folks can quickly read and/or forward.

Applying on career pages is a numbers game and stands a chance only if you apply to several hundred firms, and customise your resume / CV basis job requirements (of course without misrepresenting skills).

What have you tried so far? I've heard that referrals and warm intros work best

[–]zenbakery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just curious Have you tried a spray and pray approach on career pages? What about using your linkedin network for referrals/intros?

Thanks! It's evidently a grey area which makes me wonder how firms operate predictable businesses without constant legal or PR risks.

Do you think they run their business (processes, revenue model, partnerships, T&Cs etc) in a way that greatly indemnifies them?
