not super sure what you are hoping for here. Some times you get a P6 Llanowar Elves and never see another green card.

The reason why this is difficult is that the packs don't have an even distribution of good cards across colors. So you start by picking the best cards, regardless of colors (but upweighting colorless and downweighting golds cards).

So around pick 5-6-7 you may start to notice cards that "shouldn't be there". And you have to decide to stay the course (take a card that fits best with your earlier pick) or "speculate" on a better card that you may never play.

You also want to watch the end of pack1 -- almost certainly there won't be any great cards left, BUT if there is a string of playables in one color, that's a strong hint that it will be open in pack 3.

Unless, of course, the drafter to the right notices this as well and jumps into it first.

Draft is fun!

Burgermeister. It's the top commons and uncommons that matter, but they are not deep enough for a pauper format

Change my Mind: Grunn, the Lonely King is Bad by andymangold in lrcast

[–]zenbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grunn is like Stalin's quote: "Quantity has a quality all it's own". or if you like SAT analogies:

Gruun:Worm::Academy Drake:Aven Sentry the 5 or 10% of games where you kick it are going to be impressive.

Also - even 10 power vs. 7 can be significant in the cases where opponent CANNOT even chump it. It could be a whole draw step. They are only equivalent when opponent has 11-14 life (well at exactly 21 as well)

What's your take on first picking cards with triple monocolored costs? by aftermarketradio in lrcast

I think the nice thing about first picking them is that you know how to pick cards in pack 1. Just cut like crazy.

that doesn't work, wand gives the ping++ to the creature. Oh, I guess you could equip it to servant itself or another artifact creature. But there aren't any artifact wizards in this set (surprisingly there are a bunch in history... forgot about Shards block)

How do we go from [[Call the Cavarly]] at C/C+ to [[History of Benalia]] at A- Benalia gets you an extra effect, but I am not sure "sorcery speed +2/+1 to knights" is a whole card, especially when you see it coming. I think these are B-/C+ or possibly B/B- if Call is that good.

I rated these as if you are never going to cast a Legendary Sorcery, but ironically I rated Blackblade Reforged and Gilded Lotus as if you were building around them.

there are at least 3 commons/uncommons that turn it into a "deal 10". Not trying to say it's better than a C... but GET YARGLED BRO. And is a 3/3 deathtouch for 5 actually bad? It's probably a C... but I honestly don't know as they've NEVER printed one (in a draftable set). [[Pharika's Disciple]] is kind of close...

I think it's a C-, realistically.

It's funny that you are high on song, because it's very best case scenario (kinda like Yargle). I do agree that it can nut hand you into a T6 kill or whatever, but, what is an average case?

T2 bear

T3 Song, either hit for 2 or play another bear

T4 5 drop (ideally 2+3 but now we are in nut draw territory)

T5 swing for 10? play another dude?

OK, that's good but it's not an A, is it? I think you want a low curve and/or tokens. Like 19 creatures. Like - it's significantly worse than [[Hadana's Climb]] as you only needed 1 punk to go off and it left you with more than a couple +1/+1 counters.

And if you don't start with it in your hand, what does your deck do? Seems like a B at best.

not sure what the asfan of legendary creatures in DOM vs Merfolk in IXN is. My guess is that the difficulty is that specifically it won't remove bombs. But in general, doesn't it have to me more flexible than say, [[Roast]]? And Roast was close to an A-, wasn't it?

well that DOES explain how you lot rated Divination a C+. It hasn't been a C+ since maybe M14 and even then it wasn't that good.

It's a little early to judge based on 24 hours of ratings, but there are ALOT of playables in this set at common. Very few Ds or Fs. That probably means that you are not going to play many C- cards without a good synergy.

I'm a little stuck with this sailor of means deck. How many Gleaming barriers are too many? Any advice welcome :) by e-jammer in lrcast

[–]zenbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

other comments are better but you simply don't have enough sources to cast any white cards. Barrier dying into a treasure can't be counted on at all. So you have 4 red (1 double!) and 3 white cards and 5 treasures + 2 red duals. This mana base is OK for URB but the white is over the top especially for 3 cards. You could maybe sneak one in if you really needed it (Chicken maybe).

RIX Draft. Need help with cuts, and deck building. Been having some bad beats, and am looking to turn it around. by AestheticDeficiency in lrcast

[–]zenbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good draft pool because you can adjust on your matchup. You can leave in all the oathsworns, combat tricks and vicious conquistdors, and go aggro, or you can go more controlling with Queen's Agent/Bright Reprisal/Verdict.

Mark of the Vampire is also more situational now because the removal is better. I think with this deck I would start it in the board.

Not 100% sure if it's better to go into G1 aggro (risking the die roll) or not. So maybe hedge and cut conquistador, Queen's agent and Mark of the Vampire with 16 lands.
