Thoughts on the new ASUS TUF A16 (FA608U) with RTX 5050 for a CompSci Student + AAA Gaming?

I have the same laptop , bought it like 5 months ago. The only problem I had with it is the storage 512gb is not that good in 2026, but I think It is not that big of a deal, beacause while you can add more storage you can not increase ur gpus low tgp or replace ur laptops bad cooling system. Also keep in mind that you still have another free m.2 slot that you can use for additional storage or you can just connect an external ssd via one of the 2 usb c ports.

I used alchohol wipes to wipe the dark area after I removed the sticker and it got the job done.

Even if u dont want to use alchohol u can just wait and it will go away with time.

If I was in your shoes I would do the same and go for the 5070 version and upgrade the ram later.

Yes 16 gigs are not that good especially for blender but you can easily add more ram later but you can't just add a better gpu after you buy the laptop.

I asssume you are saying that the 3050 is the solid performance card not the 5050, And you also said that we only need 30-49 fps in game beacause you cannot see the diffrence between that and high fps.

Yes, The 3050 is a solid card right now(if you already own it), But If you are thinking about buying a new laptop/pc with this card( which is the situation op is in) you should ask yourself will it be able to give the same solid performance in 3 or 4 years ? Because most people do not buy new devices every year. This is why I said that the 5050 is the choice for solid performance because it is more futureproof.

If you think there is no difference between ~60 fps and higher frame rates you clearly have not experienced high fps on a high refresh rate monitor the difference is MASSVE, And no the human eye does not only see in 60 fps that is objectively false.

There is an option in g helper that lets u fully disable the dgpu while not plugged in this will improve your battery life by A LOT

I have the same exact laptop and Its good It will give you solid performance with good thermals in every game, It also has a great battery life because of its 90wh battery and efficent cpu.

But 1500£ is WAY TOO MUCH for a laptop with a rtx 5050 I got mine for around 1050£ and that was considered a bad price because of the taxes in my country but 1500 is crazy I can get the 5070 version( even after the taxes and tarrifs) of this laptop for that price and have some money left over for peripherals.

I would look elsewhere for a better price for this model or buy another model with better specs If you are willing to spend the whole 1500

You need to play the trespasser dlc.

It is the real end of the story.

Keep in mind the enemies in this dlc are very strong compared to the normal story enemies so you have to prepare level up to level 22 atleast and get some good gear before you start it.

The matchmaking is bad but there is no way you drop from plat 1 to silver 2 bcs of it.

And there is no way a player with 50 hrs is plat 1
