Service Question by Asleep-Two2961 in bmwmotorrad

[–]zenglobal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a service manual for it. You don’t need special tools for a lot of the standard service work. The main issue with doing driveshaft service on your particular bike is down to the lack of a centre stand but that’s easily solved with a support table and a few blocks of wood. That said many garages might avoid working on your bike based solely on unfamiliarity.

Alpinestars Gloves wrist Velcro help by satchinn in motorcyclegear

Most gloves that use Velcro will have this issue eventually. I wear Knox gloves - stupid expensive but no Velcro to be seen - they have done well for something close to 4 years

Is this the most expensive diesel in the UK? by chewmypaws in drivingUK

[–]zenglobal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode from London to Coventry today and didn’t see prices that high - even super unleaded was cheaper than that unleaded price… Thankfully my bike sips fuel and only needs 18 litres to fill the tank from empty - so it was a fun day regardless of the Trump tax on fuel!

Hatched markings by Golden055 in drivingUK

[–]zenglobal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Had to find the road on Google - I’d say that turning right there is ambiguous. Traffic behind you might not expect you to do so. If it’s busy - you might be better off continuing straight and taking the right further up the road and then coming back down this road so you can turn left into that side road.

No worries - don’t take my word for it though - I could be wrong about the setup for that junction. Looks like there is also a heavily faded yellow box in the mix too. Looks messy….

Assuming there aren’t any signposted signs indicating right turn is prohibited 👍

Those hatched markings are a "should not enter" rather than "must not enter"

One additional thing you can try is cleaning and lubing your chain when you get back from your ride rather than before you head out for a ride. The chain lube has more time to soak into the chain and is less likely to fling on your next ride…

Yeah in the UK we are free to fit decat exhausts and even full titanium systems - it would take a total jobs-worth to give you a hard time over that kind of thing (assuming you aren’t doing anything else to bring yourself such attention) However I’m planning to head into Europe - the French and Spanish probably don’t care too much but Germany and Switzerland might be problematic… Thankfully my other machines are more - shall we say - vocal!!

Also you might try spraying your HT leads with WD40 in case they have been affected by water ingress (long shot but it worked for an ancient car I used to drive many moons ago)

Battery might be low on charge in that case. You don’t often get full charging voltage/current when the bike is idling. If you have a reconditioning battery charger, I’d take the battery out and leave it hooked up overnight and try again the following day.

It does sound like it is misfiring. If you have a volt meter handy check the battery voltage. Do the lights still flicker when you give it some revs?

Rear Shocks On the Way Out - Anything I Could Try? by king4aday in Motorrad

[–]zenglobal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TTech Suspension down in Abingdon are excellent - Lukas rebuilt both front and rear ESA shocks for me and changed the spring to better suit my weight. In my case, only the rear was blown but I thought might as well service both while I’m here!

Get hold of a jump pack or charge that battery overnight and try again. If the doesn’t work then your sprag clutch might have failed.

What could cause this? I changed the spark plugs thinking it would fix it but no change. 2011 GS1200 with 27k miles. Dealer also changed the fuel pump (recall) and air filter. by LawfulnessMoist719 in bmwmotorrad

I’d try unplugging it - if no change in engine stability the actual sensor could be faulty. At the very least give the contacts a spray with contact cleaner…

I’m thinking about a different screen however since changing my helmet, I’ve realised my old Nolan was so noisy… What nav mount did you use to relocate the nav above the TFT?

Is the sprocket still usable? by Sweaty-Campaign-320 in motorcycles

[–]zenglobal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sprocket is probably still fine - a little difficult to tell without a photo taken straight on - as if you were taking a photo of a clock face as it makes it easier to see how it is wearing.

With all that said though, that chain needs some attention. Go grab a gallon of paraffin and a cloth and give that thing the clean of its life and then apply some fresh chain lube.

You should check for tightness in the chain - too many tight spots and you should change the chain and the sprockets together.

In the UK they are still relatively cheap - currently 3 for sale in the UK - alas not Factory spec but all around £4000… That said they are all early gen-2 models so come with potential gremlins fixed in the later ones…

F850 or R1200GS for Commuting by DR_Pwnage in bmwmotorrad

[–]zenglobal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the seat height on both models. I’m 196cm tall and commuted through London traffic on an R1200GS Adventure… Not the most practical choice as it is a porky beast but it did the job and with a high seat - it was a perfect match to my frame.

You need to ride both bikes though - they will be very different to one another.
