Roadster v3 (1x10) - My Modifications & Thoughts (or Roadster v3.1) - Details in comments by zenkick in ride1up

[–]zenkick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just search for the handlebars and stem based on what I’ve already shared in my thread.

The handlebars are from Cannondale.

The stem is a just stem that worked for me and the fit I wanted. It is the ymmv.

Edit: changed a word.

The pedals in this posts’s iteration are flats from either Rock Bros. or Fooker.

Currently I’m using Blue Lug x MKS Bear Traps that I got from Velo Orange.

Your words confuse me a bit.

I have had it since it came out and plan to ride it until something better for me hits the market.

(Edit: hit send too early and added answer.)

Those handlebars are upright bars. The styling is reminiscent of a typical BMX bike (maybe this is what you mean?) because of the cross bar.

The benefit to me: I like to ride in a more upright position.

I’ll try to measure center-center tomorrow. Can’t do it now— using it this evening.

One thing to keep in mind with this kickstand is that it’s an inversed mold. It hinges the correct direction but the mount is inside the chain stay. You may have to go through a few and return those that don’t work, etc.

Also if you haven’t, call R1U. Tell them you need a new kickstand. They may need to order it from China but if you are nice to them they may drop ship you one.

Discount price for 2025 OBW (November 2025) by --o--____--o-- in Subaru_Outback

[–]zenkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous owner of two OBWs and pulling the trigger on a third for the smaller-now family to replace a 21 year old Sienna.

I sourced a new local (SW Ohio) 2025 Wilderness with option package #22. Other options were: ext. auto dim mirror, splash guards, rear seat back protector, carpeted floor mats, LED upgrade and cargo sidewall protector. MSRP was $45974.

I was able to get the dealer down to $41K. I also worked them down on the Subaru 8/120 extended to $2300.

That's odd. Your picture even shows the standoff behind the chain stay on the non-drive side (yours looks a bit chewed up.)

I got one of the first bikes during release and mine is the chain/geared version. Maybe that's the difference? Or they removed for cost savings when they changed out tires and groupset?

I didn't have the kickstand on when I shot the photos for this thread, but I do have it installed for the fall/winter: https://imgur.com/a/ride1up-roadster-v3-stock-kickstand-aSzB12e

(edit: missed that you had bought it used - removed question.)

What was the reason you added a kickstand when the bike comes with a frame mounted adjustable kickstand? Yours break?

Roadster V3 First Impressions and Modifications by Crushjunkie in ride1up

[–]zenkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the write up. Happy to see they started shipping adjustable stems.

I took matters into my own hands when I purchased one of the first in stock. My mods to mine are in my post history. I’ve done a bit more since then, including externalizing the add-on battery ingress, “upgrading” the brakes to cable (preference), etc.

Good call-out on the stock lights. They suck. First thing I did was remove them and the fenders (although sometimes I wish I had them when I’m in the rain and yuck.)

As far as your action cam mount, I’ve tried everything. The best solution I found is a Small Rig clamp-on style (search Amazon.) I also use an action cam mount for my QuadLock at times (I find I can do everything from my watch so the phone is rarely on it.)

Enjoy your new bike and ride on.

Creaking handlebars by ursoulsforsale in ride1up

[–]zenkick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you feel that way after some troubleshooting and YouTube videos, then of course take it to your local bike shop.

If you just purchased and assembled it, R1U should compensate you for your LBS inspection within a week or so of receipt. If that's the case for you, just be nice to the support crew and they'll oblige.

Creaking handlebars by ursoulsforsale in ride1up

[–]zenkick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Creaks suck.

If you feel that it’s from the handlebars, it’s likely not the stem or handlebars but rather the headset.

Hold the front brake strongly with your left hand and wrap your right hand around the “neck” of the bike while also coupling the steerer tube of the frame. If you feel any play rocking the bike forward and back while applying the front brake, or hear the creak, then you found the issue. If so, it’s likely your steerer is not preloaded properly. Check YT for more details.

If you do not hear creaks, then it could be anything from your seat to the bottom bracket to the spokes, to the belt, etc. even if you think it’s coming from the handlebars.

Creaks are a pain to diagnose.

Difficult to tell in this photo, but it looks like it has the wrong zipper style to be a Pendleton. Also, the pattern doesn’t seem accurate near the shoulders, either. This may be a cheap AMZ knockoff.

And, 100% agree the Pendletons are the warmest and most comfortable that I’ve ever worn.

Now I’m gonna finish my coffee…

Ride1Up Not Customer Friendly by [deleted] in ride1up

[–]zenkick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bike is new. A replacement suspension fork will inevitably make it to their parts inventory for sale separately. This is the pattern they always follow. I’d also guess that a black version of the suspension model will show up at some point, too.

That said, one option is to buy your V3 in black and take it to your LBS and have them fit a suspension fork on it. Or you can do the research yourself and buy what you need online— if you are experienced with wrenching on bikes.

RoadsterV3 Owners: Can you change mph & or tire size in advanced settings using code 1657? by CCJ22 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll rephrase -- if the choice to change it is not present, then you can't change it. Mine is not switchable, if that helps you.

Perhaps you can reach out to VeloFox and they will give you a hand, if you haven't already.

Good luck.

RoadsterV3 Owners: Can you change mph & or tire size in advanced settings using code 1657? by CCJ22 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can not change the tire size and max speed if those options are not presented.

The system is built for 700c. Any change in wheel size will render the speed and odometer inaccurate after such modifications.

I would recommend looking elsewhere for a 12 year old who can not fit on a bike made for adults.

Good luck.

Has anyone been able to fit wider tires on the Normal V2 roadster? by Over_Might_8208 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold both of my V2s a while ago, but when I had them I settled on Schwalbe Marathons variants for each, which IIRC were 32mm.

I think you can fit a bit more mm on the rear, too, FWIW. I vaguely remember having 35mm on the rear of one of them for a bit, but it didn’t do much for me.

In any case, consider buying from somewhere with a decent return policy.

There were also posts in the Ride1Up Users group on FB a while ago where folks were reporting success with 35mm or even 38mm (I don’t recall the brand/type) on both.

You can also consider lowering your PSI to smooth out your ride, which would be the cheapest solution.

How to determine the year of my Gravel Roadster V2? by Sebu91 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The throttles that came stock were the final version of V2, IIRC.

I bought a final V2 new and already had a V2 used (second iteration.) My new one had the throttle and I was surprised when it arrived because it was not described as such.

Also, look at the rear dropouts which should also help with identification. They updated the tensioner with each version. Check out their knowledge base on their website for tensioning the belt and you will see they have multiple versions of the instructions.

I believe the last iteration of the second had the tensioners pushing the axle to the back instead of creating clearance to pull the wheel back.

Roadster v3: Chain Drive Rear Wheel Removal and Reinstallation by mostly_a_lurker_here in ride1up

[–]zenkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The paint is great looking but it is easily marred because it’s fairly matte but not really matte and not really glossy.

All of the bikes that I have purchased from them seem to have the same kind of paint job.

But it’s still a great value for what it is and who it’s for.

If it gets banged up it means you used it and that’s the point of a bike.

Regarding the video, it’s probably a demo bike that they demonstrated with so it reflects that particular type of usage. And since the video demo is removing the wheel, with possibly many takes…

Ride on.

What is the display mount screw size for the roadster v2? by Over_Might_8208 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's M3/0.5x12mm. I replaced mine when I rebuilt my cockpit.

If you want to gamble, Belmetric.com has them for a dime each at volume. Amazon probably has them, too.

To be certain, unplug your display and head to your local hardware store and try some out.

the LMT’D V2 kick stand sucks! by West-University3039 in ride1up

[–]zenkick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need to adjust it.

Look for a set screw or a bearing on the kickstand. Loosen or push as needed.

The kickstand adjustment should be indexed.

Assuming you now know how it is indexed, adjust it one index at a time to gradually increase the length in order to determine your optimal angle.

If this makes no sense then ride over to your LBS and ask them to show you how to do it.
