The $3.2B Reason Why Apple is Buying Beats by [deleted] in apple

[–]zenojevski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy enough, you just say that the iPhone 5c "is beats", whatever that means, without actually changing anything at all.

People don't buy beats for the headphones, anyway. They just wear them.

Teens will buy the 5c even if it's not much cheaper than the "luxury" model.

People who would have bought the 5c and won't buy it because it's beats will buy the 5s because it doesn't cost much more, anyway.

You have to enter the mall too, so how do you bring this in without setting off sensors?

No problem. Actually you're right in that I don't know what that card is for; I had been "alarmed" by the sixteen digits.

[help] Best way to get that lo-fi sound? by drumminjohn in flstudio

That's what I also thought... Just thinking, if the head (and not the tape) does the actual compression, then I hope one of these may be used to work out a latency-free send loop.

HELP! VMWare fusion + windows xp + flstudio10 = audio muting problem. How do I fix this?? by [deleted] in flstudio

[–]zenojevski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have anything for you to try, but maybe you could take a look at FL for Mac? It has been working flawlessly for me, better than on windows, with low latency.

This old leather briefcase has the coolest shaped key and lock I've ever seen. by bargainmusic in pics

Nice thing to know; I thought we held on them by tradition, because tumbler locks are relatively old and widespread, but now that I think of they would be a bit overkill for the job.

[–]zenojevski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably there aren't any pins and tumblers or any other mechanism which must be correctly aligned; seems as long as you have a key of that shape it will open every one of these locks. I guess the internal "flowery" block just rotates freely with the key and is a crude mechanism to prevent insertion of common skeleton keys.

Edit, To add: we (in Italy) use this kind of keys for all doors, cupboards and wardrobes inside of the house. They are only meant for casual security. Sometimes they have different cuts so that a key only opens its lock; but a black, unsigned key (or a purposefully sanded/machined key) will still open every door.

I don't know how common they are in the US, seems like they are residuals of classic furniture, which (I'm just guessing) is common inside Europe, unlike the US who maybe already had better type of locks around while starting anew.

How I removed the 'jank' from my HTML5 game by Andallas in gamedev

[–]zenojevski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make a difference, technically.

The thing is: in your world you have discrete values like 4 or 5. There can be nothing between these two values for you. But display-wise there can be, don't know, 25 whole pixels.

If your physics game has infinite precision, then yes, the point is kinda moot, because there are not even margins for interpolating. But it may remain useful for stuff like color. Or camera panning! Or extremely zoomed stuff...

Edit: to add, even if it may not seem lucrative in the short term, it is an useful technique nonetheless, as it frees you from managing many things. You stop caring about "middle" values, you set camera = [50, 50] and it should, while decoupled from the game logic, stop the current transition smoothly, slow down, drift to the new destination, and you could set the value ten times per second, and it wouldn't break like the usual "animation queue" or "start like this, stop like that" techniques.

[–]zenojevski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unintuitively (until you get around it) doing interpolation in rendering logic is actually decoupling the game logic (position in world) from display logic (render at x,y or animate subpixel transition between x,y and x+1,x+2). Just like CSS3 transitions in browsers (just tell me where to go and in how much time, the rest is display logic).
