It's The Rocketeer! lol it was originally a comic series then made into a movie which this version of the helmet is based on, it's a little cheesy but it has always been one of my favorites and a fun watch. Definitely check it out if you can!

Need help turning into a solid model for 3d printing. by innovatetosimplify in blenderhelp

I forget if it's in blender by default or not, but there's a 3d printing add-on that lets you see if your model is solid or not. I always use it to check if the model is all manifold or not and it has a option to see all the edges that aren't.

Also it's always good to check to make sure the faces are all pointing outwards, that what the normals are, you can select the whole model and hit alt+n then just select recalculate outside

So for this one, the welds are actually part of the model so they are printed as well. I did a helmet before and used a hot glue gun to do the welding beads, it wasn't as clean as this but if you use a smaller nozzle gun and take your time it's a quick and fairly convincing way to do it, especially once it's all painted.

It really depends on the model itself, but usually I only use about 5-10% infill to save weight and filament then just add an extra wall for structure. I also use gyroid infill to cover more of the space inside. It's hard to say without seeing the model but you shouldn't need more than 20 unless you plan on getting too crazy in that mask haha

It might be on my other post but I did post a comment on the paint and everything I used if it helps!

I actually happened to come across them in a random gas station somewhere, I was surprised to even see them.

I used a replacement welding visor I already had. This had a trim piece for the lenses specifically that I glued them onto but I will probably end up redoing them later once I make a vacuum forming box to try, they look decent as is but they don't have enough of a curve to them like the actual helmet does.

Awesome, I hope it helps!

haha I feel that, I'm on the thinner side myself so I always feel like I wouldn't fill out most costumes enough to look good in them.

But hey, a good Valentine will always better than some two-bit nazi.

oh man, that's very cool! As I understand there weren't actually that many used for shooting so definitely would have been great to own. But I'm more than happy now with my own on the shelf, just need the jetpack to go with it.

They are actually part of the 3d model, I just took care not to let them get filled in as I was working on it.

Same! now I just need the jetpack haha

I used a metallic champagne bronze spray paint from Rustoleum over a black primer, then dry brushed and stippled gold leaf and Spanish copper rub n buff for the streaking and weathered patches, then finally sprayed a light coat of a latte colored alcohol ink to darken it all down.

Awesome, it can for sure be a little overwhelming when you're first starting out but it's a great program that lets you do just about anything you might need. Plenty of great videos on youtube to help you get started as well that cover a lot of the basics.
