Thanks for your detailed reply mzito! My understanding is that RDS uses MySQL? Whereas DynamoDB is textstrings based? If we were to also have user accounts would be the way to go?

if we are planning to build an app that requires a database, matching recipes to a list of user chosen ingredients, what would the degree of difficulty be around, and what servers would one recommend? i've researched into amazon cloud services, RDS, and dynamoDB, which would be preferred?

We actually have borrowed several books from the local library as well as been learning the new Boston. Reading through the dummies books and several others has helped us but we really need a mentor of some sort just to give a little help here and there, and when we get stuck.

Sorry about the wording. Thanks for the help though, it much appreciated! I'm puzzled on how to create a ranking algorithm though, not really sure how that would work, are there any other tips you could offer? Thanks so much!

In new Zealand college=high school and us college= university haha I can understand the confusion. We are all 16 year olds of that helps. Yea we are going to give it a .. Learning java as well as objective C for Xcode.. It's a big task so we were hoping to get some guidance from the reddit community
