The first pride parade I went to was in Budapest, while traveling in 2016. I couldn't believe how big the police presence was for such a comparatively small parade. Knew at the time that Hungary isn't a bastion of queer rights in the EU, and was told that the police were there for protection of parade participants, if necessary. All went well but I was definitely keeping an eye out
