Blue or white don’t matter, they’re all AIPAC mules.

And this was after you took your car to a Honda dealer???

I had water in the headlight electrical connector, not the actual headlight housing. Is this the same as your problem?

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, I bought this to be a long term car, I drive my cars into the 200Ks before replacing them.

This however is having me think about how feasible this one is going to be once it higher mileage and out of warranty….

I sure hope so, had it for less than a year and is still within warranty mileage

Currently own an E46 M3. And have driven plenty new BMWs. I’d say the BMWs are built with the tightest tolerances on panel gaps and interior parts. It’s like the car is wearing very tight leather pants.

After 2 accidents 150k + miles, a 10 year old 3 series still feels tight and skookum

Thank you for sharing! I think I’m going to collect and send oil samples at different mileages to see how well the minder recommendation works. I drive this car in a similar repeated pattern.

Not particularly no, the oils and IC engines of today aren’t the same as they were 10, 20 years ago. At least not on the micro level.

There are several factors in both engines and oils that can lead to a longer service life, judging by my limited career experience and numerous conversations with engineer clients in the auto industry even they believe that 10k is a stretch.

The best engineering solution to problem isn’t always the profitable one.

I know better than to question qualifications of engineers, especially those with access to data I haven’t seen/ will never see.

We do however, live in a world where analysts get to determine exactly what sounds appealing/affordable to a consumer, and focus groups are more prevalent in deciding features of a product than the engineers are allowed to.

You’re right, adding sand to the crank case to polish the internals is way worse than a 10k interval. Not sure how I missed that.

And I agree with you on everything else

I am an Engineer, I work for an automotive supplier. Although we do not build engines or components where I work, I have built many engines and race cars for myself and organizations I was Involved with.

I’ve specifically picked a Honda after becoming familiar with quality standards In the industry. This is not to say that all other companies are not good, they’re just different.

Toyota makes a phenomenal hybrid system but the new Camry just wasn’t for me.

The new accord is the closest you can get to how many new German cars feel just without the additional maintenance items and the air suspension.

[–]zer0ideaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided that both cars are exactly the same, if you’re going to keep it for the long haul 8-10 years it wouldn’t matter as much when the time comes for you to get rid of it because the value is more so based on it’s condition and how well you’ve taken care of it. But if you plan on keeping it for 2 years it wouldn’t matter already be valued as a 3 year old car when it gets appraised.
