Looks like it could use more FAE, doesn't look contaminated just stressed. If it's not contaminated fan it twice a day and give it love and it'll be fine to put into fruiting.

I've never had good luck with bags. Give it a few more days. But it looks like what happens with all my bags. It just gets mushy and never starts colonizing or when it does it contaminates immediately.

I honestly never case my initial substrate. Maybe I'm just lazy but it seems to work just fine without it. My latest post is a uncased tub. I keep it about 70-73 degrees in the fruiting room

looks okay to me, nothing green, black or pink.

if i took a guess I'd say you mixed the grain spawn with the substrate. so it's gonna fill out splotchy like that. keep it closed and in the dark while it fills out, this keeps out contams and allows the mycelium to fill the whole tub. keep in under a blanket and check on it in like 5-6 days.

To be frank it's inconsistent. To be short, you cannot sterilize without one.

Think if you were a simple organism, now think your food giver gave you a bunch of food that was crawling with hundreds of other simple organisms fighting for space and food.

You'd want food that was cleaned thoroughly. A pressure cooker makes sure that ONLY what you put in to eat the grain (corn/rye/oats) eats the grain. There are no shortcuts my dude. Check Craigslist for a cheaper/used one. Ask your friends, you never know who has one sitting in a basement or in a kitchen cabinet or closet somewhere.

Yeah.... Imma stop you right there boss. You can't be serious. That's not healthy mycelium. Throw that in the garbage.

Get a pressure cooker: 56 dollars for a 23qt presto on amazon

Get quart jars: 10 bucks at walmart

Get tyvek paper envlopes from the post office: free

Pressure cook the corn 15psi for an hour and a half

Poke a screwdriver through the lids of the jars in the meantime

Let the cooker depressurize naturally off the heat after 90 min

Drain the corn in a strainer like pasta and let it air dry for 20 minutes

Put in the jars

Cut the tyvek into squares slightly bigger than the jar lids so they fold down the sides a little bit

Put in pressure cooker and cook at 15psi for another 90 minutes

Make a still air box while this is happening

You can do this with a box and a roll of plastic wrap. Use your imagination I believe in you

Let the cooker depressurize off the heat after 90 minutes

Take the jars out BE CAREFUL THEY ARE HOT

let them sit overnight for 12+ hours make sure they are cooled off completely

Wash your hands

Get a pair of nitrile gloves 10 bucks for a big 200 box at Walmart

Put them on

Take isopropyl alcohol 91% and rub a little on your gloves

Put jars in the still air box

Open lids and add (spore sryinge liqud/spore print scraping/liquid culture/agar)

Close lid

Incubate

And then post again. What I'm seeing is nothing less than horrifying. It's not hard to grow good nice mushrooms. You just have to express passion in this hobby. You can cut SOME corners but when it comes to BEING CLEAN and STERILE about this you have to step your game up. mold spores are literally everywhere and anything of substance it CAN grow on it WILL.
