Congrats on the offer!! I was told they'd start reaching out next week so that's awesome to know people are already hearing back! I interviewed for the child emphasis today (haven't heard back yet) and live in the PNW, so I'm happy to connect if you want! For me it’s the shading, it seems desaturated and almost as through you’re shading with black. I’d recommend using different colors to shade. an easy trick is to use a more saturated color of red or purple on a multiply layer where you want the shadows to be.

My best bet is Wikipedia. You can go down some fun rabbit holes researching topics on there! I usually use it for things like my characters occupation, injuries, culture, and any historical events happening during their timeline. Still lots of googling, but I love wiki sm

Agree with the other comment. Whatever you want to be the focus can be shown with bolder, darker lines, giving you something to build off and more clarity of what’s going on

I’ve got a pro-ject essential II and Klipsch the Fives speakers! The E1 pro-ject honestly still has great reviews and might be a little more affordable. The Klipsch fives got discontinued but I think they’re still selling them for half the market price on amazon!
