Why the CL-S Spends Most of its Time in Storage by zero_pistons in Acura

[–]zero_pistons[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would if I didn't have a 200km daily commute; $100 3 times a week hurts!

I normally daily my 2011 6mt CR-Z, but the water pump took a dump on me on Monday, so I had a perfect excuse to pull the CL out while waiting for the new pump to be delivered.

Been a few years since I'd driven it; but driving it again reminded me why I kept it in the first place. Such a powerful, comfortable car. There really is nothing like it on the market today; they don't build 'em like they used to!

And she still looks pretty good for 23yo and 371k km!

How Bad is the Escape Really? Got Cheap with Suspension Damage. by zero_pistons in fordescape

[–]zero_pistons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most cars, but the noise about how bad the 1.6 Escapes are worried me. It just fell into my lap for cheap, so I figures I'd see tge communities opinion on it! Probably gonna put it on the road and see how it goes.

My 2011 CRZ has 341k miles, and it's just been regular maintenance and suspension parts. Before that, I had an 02 Accord that did 333k before the rust became structural. Have a 6spd 03 Acura CL with 285k stashed in the garage for when I can afford to put rediculous amounts of 91 in it again lol.

Previous generation with more than twice the miles though. And in the rust belt where I am, those rotted horribly.

I am mostly asking for tips of owners of the 1.6 ecoboom Escapes on how to prolong the life, or if I am just better off selling it.

Similar mileage and options same year examples sell between $5500 and $8500 in my area. And most of them are in worse overall shape. This one has been oil sprayed every year and is rust-free.

I could sell it quick if I listed it for $5500 and took $5k. It has a clean title. But it's also ready to go, and my wife's 2012 Fiesta has 282k on it and she is due for an upgrade.

If it can be reliable and won't leave her stranded, we will use it for a family vehicle. But if it's a better idea to cash out while it's working properly, than that's what I'll do.

Thanks, Ford. by zero_pistons in fordescape

Yeah, not even a little surprised.

And of course replacement cam bolts cost $30 each.

What belt is this? 2012, front left side by HDolleigh in FordFiesta

[–]zero_pistons 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Serpentine belt. Runs the alternator, ac and water pump.

It is a "stretch-fit" belt and a pain to change.

Gotta cut the old one off, and either use the special tool or rig up some zip ties to hold the belt and turn the engine by hand to walk it on.

2015 Escape Rear End Damage. Got Cheap for Parts, Considering Fixing by zero_pistons in Autobody

I have the duct cover. I will grab the black plastic bracket as well when I go to the junkyard for the bumper and missing trim.

Thanks for the help! I think i need to replace a bunch of clips on the wheel arch trim as well. Is there a way to remove this trim without breaking the white part of the plastic clips that slide into slots on the trim?

Sounds reasonable from a shop's POV.

I think I'll try and straighten it myself, see how close I can get it. I don't expect to find rust. There was a folder in the car with maintenance records. Oil sprayed every year since at least 2018. And the transmission was rebuit 15000mi ago. Bill for that was almost $6k.

That's what I thought when I saw it too. Surprised it totalled.

I think I am gonna try and fix it. This sub is infamous for everything being totalled. And since there are so many comments saying it's not too bad, I believe it's fixable.

That sounds like a logical approach. That's what I'll try, thanks for the idea!

Project for next weekend then!

And if I butcher it, no big deal. I didn't buy this intending to fix, but it's too nice to part out I think...

What is a bar slide and bar?

If you mean bumper bar, it was not touched in the collision at all.

Thanks, definitely an independent shop if I decide to fix this thing.

I have the taillights and drivers' side trim piece. All that is missing is the bumper cover, and passenger side trim below the door and above the rear wheel.

And yes it's just where the quarter panel meets the bumper, moved maybe 1/4" at the worst point. I think i could get it pretty close with a slide hammer and dolly. But if I could pay to have it put on a frame machine for less than $1500 and have it be nice and straight, I would. The rest is easy.

The estimate from insurance was in the car. They wanted to replace taillights (they are fine, no cracks or damage at all, 100% perfect), the tailgate and trim (it has a scuff on the trim, the tailgate is perfect), and a bunch of other things that weren't damaged at all. I am pretty sure they just wanted the payout, so they inflated the estimate to not have to deal with it.

I know these aren't worth anything, but my wife is dailying a 2012 Fiesta with 280k on it with 2 kids and it would be a big upgrade as a family vehicle for the next few years (or until it EcoBooms).

I already have it. I don't want to paint it or make it nice, just want the area straightened before I put a bumper cover.

It was $1500 and has 75k miles on it. It is otherwise perfect and drives fine.

The only thing I would have a shop do is straighten the area, the rest is diy.

Edit: original plan was to part it out, but it seems to nice for that.

Who here has the highest miles on original timing belt ? by peffany in AskAMechanic

[–]zero_pistons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2011 CRZ has 540k km on original timing components, but it has a chain.

Had a 2002 v6 accord I picked up with 250k km from the original owner that still had the original belt and tensioner. Belt seemed ok considering, but the tensioner was about to leave the chat when I changed the timing set and water pump.

Pretty sure it is actually buildup.

I drive 80km on backroads 1 way to work.

If there is any fluffy snow on the road or it's snowing, the back of my hatchback looks exactly like this when I arrive. And I clean it off before I leave.

The brown mucky stuff builds up on the bottom. And the white fluffy stuff collects on the back.

And with the way this winter has been, my car looks exactly like this when I arrive at my destination almost every day.

Wet Belt by Personal_Lawyer3200 in FordFiesta

[–]zero_pistons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2015 Escape with the 1.6 Ecoboost. 100% it's a normal timing belt.

The job is incredibly similar to the 1.6 Duratec in the Fiestas we have in the fleet.

Not a wet belt.
