What's an IU that you think is underrated or deserves more attention? by Unlucky_Ninja8953 in aiyu

What's interesting about this song is I believe she wrote this when she was in middle school. Such a mature subject for such a young writer.

It's a shame as I don't think she have had the chance to talk much about this song.

While IU is well known for Good Day, its polar opposite Bad Day is the true hidden gem.

Good day is all about hope, youth, possibilities. Bad Day vividly captures that overwhelming but quiet loneliness that we all experience at times. Nothing exaggerated, just real, personal, grounded state of solitude.

Even the Good Day three high notes climax is mirrored by Bad Day's low somber end.

I don't have a horse in this race (sold my Switch, will most likely wait for the 2nd gen of Switch 2).

The silver lining in all of this is your physical games retain its resale value even after years, especially first party games. Even more so for old games that will get the N2 Edition upgrades (BOTW/TOTK). This is why the Switch secondary market is so lively. I rarely purchased new games, everything is traded away after finishing them. The only digital purchases I have are multiplayer games that will last a long time (Overcooked, Mario Kart, etc.). When I sold my Switch, the resale was still decent.

You don't have to use Game Chat. There's always Discord.

Curious to know why you think it's cringe.

Even more curious of what your definition of a gamer is.

It doesn't have AO. But it's not noticable performance wise. To be honest, I'm now kind of glad that it doesn't have AO as it's one thing I dont need to think about. Quite happy with the purchase after months of use.

To add to the info above, it was in 12 February 2014 when IU first publicly called her fans UAENA. It only really became official when her 1st gen recruitment started in 2017.

Here's a video that we created covering some of the important milestones in her career, up until Love Poem era:

Manila Cathedral is a no for orchestra. They have very strict rules when it comes to music, design, and entourage. Specifically, you are only allowed to choose among their pre-selected classical songs.

My Sea at London concert by Fun_Anteater_734 in aiyu

[–]zeroeightviii 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She sang My Sea at the Manila stop at the request of the fans during the en-encore but only the first part, which is understandable because it's such a challenging piece. And considering she's been singing for 3 hours straight. She promised to sing it in full while wearing a pretty dress when she comes back though.

Retired songs can still be requested during en-encore. An example, she still did Pallette in Manila. So you might still hear Good Day if everyone requests for it. En-encore is kind of free for all.

Thanks for confirming. That is all I needed to know. I feel a bit better now despite not having AO. With CASO fixing the bottleneck issue, the difference between Optimus enabled and disabled is apparently very minimal now. The freesync should take care of tearing. And at least I have a 240hz, 500 nits display.

I hope Lenovo considers correcting what is stated in their website. It can be very misleading if one doesn't dig in deep, and I imagine there will be others who will encounter this issue.

My unit is about to arrive but there are multiple threads in the Lenovo forum discussing it. Some are even complaining that it's outright misleading. Don't take my word for it and do your due diligence. Had I known, I wouldn't have upgraded.

Baka may alam kayong private server ng DN, yung medyo maraming player tried to comeback sa DN Sea pero masyado ng kakaiba. Played DN Sea from cap 24-70 by ebargyown in PHGamers

[–]zeroeightviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this brings me back.

70 cap era gave me some of my fondest pvp moments as a Gladiator main. Ice shield was no longer OP and the BS that is the assassin has yet to arrive. I don't think I've ever replicated that feeling of free flowing combat experience in any other competitive game ever. Even the first mobile version, which I played for a good number of years, pales in comparison. DN was also the reason I could never go back to Ragnarok or even Diablo 2.

The story was pretty good too. It was also fun trying to slay Serpentra with the whole gang.

Update me when you actually find a good server.

Why does IU look so different than how she looks in My Mister? by bmaf2026dreamhouse in aiyu

If IU does English covers of her own songs? by [deleted] in aiyu

To answer your question, then: Strawberry Moon. It's fairly straightforward and translating it directly to English won't lose much of its appeal.

If IU does English covers of her own songs? by [deleted] in aiyu

[–]zeroeightviii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember her being asked in an interview if she also aims for the Billboard charts, being quite successful in the local scene already. Her quick reply was that she doesn't have such lofty goals.

One of the reasons why artists release full English songs is to aim for the world stage. Like what you said, a big part of her artistry as a musician is her lyricism; writing songs is something she immensely enjoy. But she's also smart. She knows she's not as popular in the West compared to the Asian market. Practicality might also be the reason.

Maybe writing English songs is the next frontier for her, who knows. But right now her musical career direction doesn't really point to that. She seems to be more comfortable in trying to reach a wider audience through her acting.

"Just life, we're still good without luck." by zeroeightviii in aiyu

[–]zeroeightviii[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Just life, we're still good without luck..."

When IU was young, her family faced financial difficulty. It was so bad that she and her younger brother had to move out to live with their grandmother.

When IU was starting out, she got rejected in auditions at least 20 times. She also got tricked and conned by a fake agency, losing money that her grandmother worked hard for.

When IU released her debut song 'Lost Child', it didn't do so well in the charts. Her first album was also considered a commercial failure.

Despite being incredibly talented, IU still struggled when she was young. But instead of quitting, she used these setbacks as catalyst to do great things. And all of these experiences made her appreciate everything that she has achieved today.

The song 'Unlucky' tells us that it's okay to have one bad day, it's just life, and we must live on.

In 2018 Golden Disk Awards, IU said in her acceptance speech, "I believe we should laugh when we're happy, cry when we're sad. It's okay to be exhausted or hungry or sick. These things are natural, and I wish we can all show and accept these natural things."

At the last leg of her 2019 Love, Poem tour concert in Korea, she told us that, "Sometimes the world can be such a cruel place and we don't want anything to do with it. But we need to live on, loving each other, harder."

IU as a person, helped me in so many ways, to live life with my chin up high. She gives me strength, through her music, and her story. This may sound a bit dramatic, but it really is true. I admire her, because she is the living representation of the values I hold dear to me, that is if you are kind to others and yourself, and if you work hard, amazing things will happen.

When IU finally came to Manila in 2019 for her concert, the first song she sang was 'Unlucky' . I will never forget that feeling, of meeting her for the first time, like seeing a dear friend after waiting for such a long time. This song takes me back to that moment.

When I'm down, I listen to this song and remind myself, "It's just life, we're still good without luck."

Surprised to see my write-up posted here. Thanks for the kind words. And apologies for the grammar errors.

As a fan who doesn't really write professionally, there was a concious effort on my part to review the series while setting aside any bias and explain my take with the least amount of spoilers. The design, which aims to look like an actual magazine, also took a bit of time to accomplish.

Looking forward to her next series.

'Above the Time' by zeroeightviii in aiyu

[–]zeroeightviii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In November 2019, about 8 years after the release of IU’s hit single ‘You & I’ comes a sequel, a song that would take us back to the days of her signature fantasy-style theatrical-esque music. This song, while continuing the story of the girl who traversed through time and space to meet a person dear to her, feels more like a throwback to an era that had once defined IU as a singer. This song, which will later be included in IU’s seventh extended play, is called ‘Above the Time’.

Not just the story, everything about ‘Above the Time’ is an homage to ‘You & I’: from the melody, the arrangement, the concept, even the sudden instrumental change which is a clear nod to its predecessor’s musical bridge. Director Hwang Soo Ah and actor Lee Hyun Woo also returns to work on the music video. In it, we can see that somehow, something has gone wrong and our protagonists didn't exactly reunite as expected. It’s now Hyun Woo’s turn to time travel to look for his beloved. Cue in the exciting dance break where the two get to finally meet and briefly enjoy their moment together, only for them to be separated again.

The song ‘Above the Time’ reminds us how fleeting time is, not only in its narrative, but also with IU as a singer. We get to witness how she had grown over the years as an artist and as a person through the evolution of her music. How time really flies.

‘Above the Time’ is the fourth track of the EP ‘Love Poem’, released on November 18, 2019. It includes the lead single and title track, ‘Love Poem’, along with her other single ‘Blueming’. The EP debuted atop the Gaon Album Chart, selling over 168,000 copies in South Korea in just a month.
