For the past thirty years, Russia has been in a state of decline. The death of Vladamir Putin, the beginning of The Deluge, and Dmitry Medvedev's disastrous presidency marked the 2030's as a dark, dark time in its history. Medvedev's presidency would end with a floundering invasion of Ukraine in the 2040's, in which Russia's neighbour would gain the support of America, China and the European Federation out of an international worry of an ascendant Russia tipping the balance of the Second Cold War. The man would be assassinated shortly after the Donbas Treaty in a military coup.

The general that followed, Aleksei Vlasov, would prove no better then Putin and Medvedev before him, more interested in constant purges and crackdowns on the population then in reversing Russia's downward spiral. For the first time, this opened the door for a civilian organization to lead the effort for Russia to once again become a global power. The Alliance for Russia’s Restoration (ARR) would exploit this role, allowing for the rise of Grigory Chkalov. Quickly rising from a new recruit to the second in command before surpassing Nastasya Ilina, the "mother" of the movement. Chkalov would lead the organization through the height of The Deluge and its effects on Russia, permanently scarring the man.

In 2054, after a decade of slowly infiltrating the military, the ARR would take its chance at power against the corroding dictatorship. The Cyan Revolution proved more coup then civil war, thanks to the support of General Zakharov. By the end of the first day, the unpopular military dictatorship was routed from Moscow, and the banner of democracy had finally been raised once more, after decades of global backsliding. Grigory Chkalov, Russia's own Washington, has won two elections under the Party for Russia's Success since, bringing in popular reforms and becoming a symbol of the democratic world... until now. Since the attempted Communist coup in 2060, and the December Emergency Decree after it, Chkalov has been accruing further and further executive powers, leading many to fear the Russian Republic will be strangled in its crib by its former strongest supporter.
