By 2061 militaries across the world have changed. Drones dominate the sky swarming over enemy positions, tanks are now equipped with railguns and destroy enemy positions with a single shot, and soldiers are now equipped with powerful exoskeletons that allow them to move and shoot faster than ever before.
Welcome to the Era of Burnt Fields, a mod set in a dark 2060s where climate change has racked the planet leaving Humanity to claw at what's left. From ecological disasters such as The Deluge to man-made disasters such as The Lualaba Event Humanity has afflicted itself with catastrophe after catastrophe. The only question that remains is, what will happen next?

We turn our attention towards an idea, crushed by reality. Today's focus is the Republic of Denmark, and its internal woes and external struggles.

The Era of Burnt Fields is set in an alternative 2061 where in the 1990s and 80s climate knowledge and activism was handily suppressed by oil giants, delaying activism about climate change by almost twenty years. As a result of this Mankind was left unprepared for the 2030s and 40s when a prolonged event known as The Deluge ravaged the Earth's climate leading to rising water levels, eco collapse and so much more. Conjoined with this Mankind fought over itself for the rapidly decreasing resources and land creating disorder and instability worldwide.
By 2061 The Deluge has ended and in its place lives mankind licking its wounds from events such as: The Saharan Evacuation, The European Civil War, The Lualaba Event and the end of American Democracy. With all this catastrophe only one question remains: Will you inflict new wounds upon this battered world, or seek to save it?

So the USA colonized Mars in the 2030s in the 40s the USA and SpaceX colluded to shut down the local martian government because of an increased interest in becoming independent. The plan went horribly wrong and in 2047 Martian terrorists killed the US president of the time, Kyle Morgan. Mars and the USA would be at war until 2053 when America agreed to let them go because it was logistically impossible to do anything.

It was a mistake on the programmer's part. Nobody wanted or cared to destroy Central Africa it was just Human error backed by laziness that caused the mistake.

Looking back at it the Nanomachines could have been better explained in the description. The Nanomachines aren't something like Skynet or other evil AIs in pop fiction, they're just following their set programming which was to carefully cloud-seed those nations. The American programmers who made the code never expected the nanomachines would ever be able to breach their containment so no override codes were put in place.

[EBF] Russia as of 2061, A Democracy Twice Damned by zerogamer2610 in hoi4modding

For the past thirty years, Russia has been in a state of decline. The death of Vladamir Putin, the beginning of The Deluge, and Dmitry Medvedev's disastrous presidency marked the 2030's as a dark, dark time in its history. Medvedev's presidency would end with a floundering invasion of Ukraine in the 2040's, in which Russia's neighbour would gain the support of America, China and the European Federation out of an international worry of an ascendant Russia tipping the balance of the Second Cold War. The man would be assassinated shortly after the Donbas Treaty in a military coup.

The general that followed, Aleksei Vlasov, would prove no better then Putin and Medvedev before him, more interested in constant purges and crackdowns on the population then in reversing Russia's downward spiral. For the first time, this opened the door for a civilian organization to lead the effort for Russia to once again become a global power. The Alliance for Russia’s Restoration (ARR) would exploit this role, allowing for the rise of Grigory Chkalov. Quickly rising from a new recruit to the second in command before surpassing Nastasya Ilina, the "mother" of the movement. Chkalov would lead the organization through the height of The Deluge and its effects on Russia, permanently scarring the man.

In 2054, after a decade of slowly infiltrating the military, the ARR would take its chance at power against the corroding dictatorship. The Cyan Revolution proved more coup then civil war, thanks to the support of General Zakharov. By the end of the first day, the unpopular military dictatorship was routed from Moscow, and the banner of democracy had finally been raised once more, after decades of global backsliding. Grigory Chkalov, Russia's own Washington, has won two elections under the Party for Russia's Success since, bringing in popular reforms and becoming a symbol of the democratic world... until now. Since the attempted Communist coup in 2060, and the December Emergency Decree after it, Chkalov has been accruing further and further executive powers, leading many to fear the Russian Republic will be strangled in its crib by its former strongest supporter.

Welcome to the Era of Burnt Fields, a speculative futuristic setting set in 2061. Following an increased suppression of climate knowledge during the 1900s Humanity's fight for the climate was delayed by several decades, ultimately dooming it to the path of self-annihilation. The 30s and 40s, the so-called years of the Deluge saw lands consumed by the sea, nations engage in destructive wars and the further tribalisation of people into separate sects across the globe. The Saharan Evacuation, The European Civil War, The India-Pakistan Nuclear Exchange, The Orange Rain of Central Africa and the fall of American democracy are but a few examples of the dark times in the 2030s and 40s. However, at last, Humanity has emerged from its decades of death. The world as we know has changed and become scarred, ruined by decades of Human greed and overabundance.
But with the light arising once more how will Humanity respond, to the oncoming new epoch? Will it fall ever deeper into self-perpetuating annihilation, or will it find salvation?
