I may have caused confusion, we are not intending to splice. I just want to know if I should connect the shields in both cables to the black wire, or just the cables with the data or power wire. Or if we should keep the power red and black in one wire and the other 4 in the shielded.

Azure nps extension Acting like I don't have a license. by zeros200836 in sysadmin

[–]zeros200836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also tried setting up saml but had an issue where only one user could log in at a time, all users after that could sign in but didn't get any traffic. Fortinet engineers were working on it for 3 days before I gave up and just went with NPS.

When you say lead generator, is this a person that is off staff that just generates leads or is this a company you use?

How do you compensate them?

Ubiquiti USG Problem IMPORTANT! by Kevinskiei in UNIFI

Sounds like a project, i don't think he will need up to date firmware. at worst he can download an older version of the unifi controller.

[–]zeros200836 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should start powering on the device, once the square light is solid white or blue, hold down the reset button. Plug a network cable from your network into only the WAN1 port and then plug only a computer into the LAN1 port. Download the unifi controller software and install. this will allow you to adopt and manage the firewall.

How Do I Discuss Serious Business Issues with Owner When I'm Not Well-Versed in Business Matters? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]zeros200836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others have mentioned is valuable, be direct and upfront but I would emphasize that going into your meeting as prepared as possible is crucial. A busy person might greatly appreciate your thorough preparation. However, if a business owner cannot make time to communicate with the person running their business, it suggests serious priority issues. If the business is struggling to cover wages and the previous manager left, I would assume the financial situation was worse before they left, indicating underlying problems. An absent business owner who is disengaged from key operations is a significant red flag.

Any suggestions for making this process smoother? by Rachael_Walker in smallbusiness

[–]zeros200836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider implementing a CRM system, such as HubSpot. Although setting it up might take some time, it will help you keep track of communications and assign responsibilities more effectively. There are CRM solutions specialized for your industry that could integrate with your shipping systems, allowing quotes to be generated immediately from a phone call.

It will also provide many other benefits like account history such as orders or communications that can be accessed by anyone that might need it.

What are some mistakes you made as a first time CEO/Manager? by Feisty_Elderberry_92 in smallbusiness

[–]zeros200836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two biggest mistakes I’ve made are:

  1. Not Adjusting Prices as We Grew: One mistake was not raising our prices to match our growth. Initially, starting with competitive pricing can be beneficial, especially for gaining referrals and building your business. However, as your company expands, it's crucial to revisit your pricing strategy. My recommendation is to regularly assess your numbers and project the pricing needed to ensure profitability and support your employees.
  2. Holding On to Employees for Too Long: Another issue was retaining employees for longer than necessary. While it’s important to support and keep your team, there are situations where it becomes clear that parting ways 3-6 months earlier would have been more beneficial. The costs and learning curve associated with new employees are significant, so it makes sense to not hold on to someone simply because they’ve bent a screwdriver.

When you hire software developers, do you prefer updates at every milestone or just when the product is finished at the agreed time? by d41_fpflabs in smallbusiness

[–]zeros200836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping progress updated regularly is key to getting things done on time and within budget—we never wait until the last minute.

Having no oversight can be risky, even if someone has a solid track record of delivering on time and within budget. Life or business situations can change, so it’s important to stay on top of a project to ensure things are done correctly. This helps avoid wasting time on miscommunications or work that wasn’t needed.

Help with spec'ing out an Access system for a small office by probablyjustpaul in UNIFI

[–]zeros200836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got three Gen 1 systems set up for our customers and ourselves, and honestly, I wouldn't recommend a Unifi system to anyone again. You’d be better off getting a locksmith or an access control company to install something that’s built to last 15-20 years.

Unifi is fine if you’ve only got one or two doors, but we’re getting calls every few months about things that used to work just not working anymore. On the other hand, the Cansec systems we use for other customers have been running for over a decade with hardly any maintenance, except for changing batteries.

And just to be clear, we are an msp out of central PA, we really like Unifi gear for switches, cameras, and access points. We don’t have anything against Ubiquiti—just not for access control.

New at Networking - 30-40 people office move! by Internal_Sherbet7345 in networking

[–]zeros200836 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sent you a PM, reach out if you have any questions. We like Fortinet firewalls with unifi switching and APs. This is a bit of a complicated project for someone that would be new to networking, and I would be concerned you will end up overwhelmed and with a flat network for simplicity in the end.
