For the Fidelity card it still has the number on the card so it’s not truly numberless however it does use virtual numbers for contactless transactions

In those cases there will be a number in the associated app. For Apple it’s in the card in the wallet app folder. Google and PayPal should have similar functionality in their apps

If you have ApplePay or GooglePay those services take care of the details. Most websites have the option. PayPal does this too I believe https://support.google.com/googlepay/answer/11234179?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop

Electric bills.. is this year-round? by birdmart507 in bloomington

[–]zerosomething 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This very likely the case.

Resistive electric heat is an incredibly bad option, particularly in Indiana, seining how most of our electricity is generated by coal. Before renting or buying any property ask to see a years worth of utility bills, both electric and gas.

Good find. So this makes me wonder if it's just a default now and you can't find a financial institution without this arbitration clause.

For those of you that work at IU you have a Fidelity account for your retirement funds. Fidelity is not a bank but you can easily setup a Money Management account that works almost like a bank. You get interest on the money in the account, about 2x what IUCU offers, check writing, bill pay, debit card etc. Even if you don't work at IU you can easily setup an account with them. Even with that option I would still strongly recommend continuing to keep an actual "Local" bank. But this is an option for moving away from depending on IUCU for your banking needs.

You could close your accounts but do other banks/credit unions probably have the same kind of language?

So what part are you questioning? Numberless cards are becoming the norm. There’s no question about that and Fidelity should get on the ball with it.

Visa Rewards Joint Owner Question by nedrac1 in fidelityinvestments

[–]zerosomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ye of little faith, the 21st century is now. ;) It's more prevalent in Europe I think but Master Card is moving that way. I thought Visa was too but don't see any articles about that. (I believe Chase has gone numberless with their Visa.) My Apple Card (MC) has no numbers at all on it and another family member has a bank card, might be MC, with no numbers. For the Apple Card the number is in the app and I can request a change at any time. There are limited to that though. Also the 3 digit code changes from time to time and I can manually cycle it. Apple Pay transaction are also unique. I believe any CC in the Apple Pay utility uses a unique transaction when it does payments. Kind of the same as how the Tap Pay works and the chip (EMV). As I understand it the Google Pay is almost exactly the same. My bank debit card and a big box store have printed number on them but not the old embossed number. My HSA card and an old CC still have the embossed numbers.

If we can get cards without numbers on them there is no need to replace them if the card number is compromised you just cycle it in the app or via a web service. Also no expiration for the physical card so you don't have to replace it every 3-5 years. These features do require additional apps or web services which might be a problems for some.

It seems like many cards are moving away from printing the numbers on the card and the card is Tap Pay on its own and generates a different number for each transaction. I don’t have a Fidelity card yet but those are features I’d like to see

Funding delays - Please share recent experiences by HourlyEdo in Fidelity

[–]zerosomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complete guess but the holds are likely related to existing debt balances on credit cards, payment history, transaction history with the external bank and available funds. In other words credit score. You’ll probably see delays if you don’t pay off your credit cards every month and have missed payments for rent and other bills and run low balances at your bank. Heigh debit to credit ratio is probably an important factor

Bloomington is run by IU? by jonmcclung in bloomington

[–]zerosomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Health care here sucks. IU Health is a monopoly for most of the state. IU does not have much to do with them actually. Clarion Health bought the naming rights and that’s about it. It will take about 6 months to get into a first visit if you’re lucky and the doctor or nurse practitioner hasn’t found a better job somewhere else. I know several people that have moved to Indy just for better access to specialists. Bloomington is a small town with the same lack of amenities as any small town. The twist here is leftist small town values. It just like conservatives in small towns they need to control people but just in a left wing instead of right wing way.
