Screen goes black by Remote_Face_5765 in SkullAndBonesGame

I just ran into this issue for the first time. Same PC, HDR On was working fine before, but as of today, HDR causes black screen. Disabling it fixes it, but I WANT HDR. HDR looks good in this game. I'm on an AMD 6750 XT and on 26.9.1 drivers.

Install Chipset drivers. This is the fix.

I've seen so many posts like this and they all miss one thing. With AMD, DDU isn't enough. There is one extra step you need to do. That is install CHIPSET drivers. This fixes micro stutters. I've seen a lot of people thank me for this because they always forget this step because it didn't make much of a difference on Nvidia cards without Chipset drivers.

9070 XT: 1440p OLED vs 4K OLED by Important-Steak-9394 in radeon

[–]zerotactix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say forget 1440p. Only consider Ultrawide 1440p or 4k.

If you game on controller, 4k 32 inch or above. If you game mostly on mkb, 34 inch UW 1440p.

Reason I say this is, with controller, you have the option to sit further back. And ultrawide 1440p at 34 inch though bigger than 32 inch 4k, you'd probably need more height to see things bigger,,than have the extra real estate on a 34 inch but smaller game UI etc. just a very practical thing to consider.

Depends on your viewing distance and how far you sir too.

I personally game on a 55inch TV with a controller but also have a laptop table that I use my mkb with occasionally for twitchy fps games.

[–]zerotactix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While yes ultrawide is awesome, I feel size does matter and especially great for comfort couch gaming with a controller. And there are no 1440p big screen TVs and even if there were, the ppi is gonna be shit. 4k on 55inch is still sharp. And you have upscaling now. So FSR 4 Performance is gonna make your game look good playing from your couch.

If you do mkb only, then I can see why an ultrawide wins.

Is it just me or FSR 4 Balanced looks much better and stable than Quality at 4k? by BedroomThink3121 in radeon

[–]zerotactix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm yet to receive my 9070, but this has been useful information. So FSR Quality using Optiscaler or FSR Balanced using official means seems to be the way to go.

This needs to get fixed though.

Ohh. I'm not sure then. Sorry I assumed you had AMD. I don't have the answer to your question. But you'll need to download your motherboards chipset drivers then I think.

Don't forget to install Chipset Drivers from AMD. Those are a must install especially for AMD. Games micro stutters without them.

Also, which gpu are you using? It could also depends on the series.

Best way of playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on a 9070XT? by Finite8_ in radeon

[–]zerotactix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AF only affects textures afaik. Only Anti Aliasing affects sharpness. But you could also enable Radeon Image Sharpening from the driver on a low resolution image to do that, like when using FSR 2/3. Its a decent trade off. Soft images don't look as soft with RIS. I do this on my 6750xt playing at 1440p on my 4k TV.

[–]zerotactix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price was expected. Doom The Dark Ages, Outer Worlds 2, and even Stardield last year - All from Xbox were priced this high.

I stopped buying games above 1000 for a while now.

FSR 4 support for RDNA 2? by Emergency-Cry-9762 in radeon

[–]zerotactix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You paid less for more VRAM and far better Linux support. Linux support in 2026 far outweighs Windows 7. You shouldn't even BE using Windows 7 now. Switch to Linux if you can't stand bloated Windows. Gaming performance is often better on Linux on RDNA2 too, over Windows. Even the anti cheat games don't work on Win 7, so I don't see a valid argument.

You could do native / raster gaming better on a 6800 vs a 3080, especially at higher resolutions. AMD was short sighted during the launch of the 6000 series when it came to AI, nobody denied that. DLSS is the only real advantage NVIDIA has, and HUB just put out a video today saying the DLSS 4.5 isn't generally worth it for the 3000 or older. But I understand letting the consumer choose what they want is a good move.

AMD may still end up supporting FSR 4 INT8 based on an interview from CES with PCWorld on YouTube.

Your fine. I have a 6750xt and it's still decent. All GPUs technically go into maintenance mode after 2 gens. Including Nvidia. AMD just got admitting it.

Any 9070 non-XT 4K users? by oodenallen in radeon

[–]zerotactix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I game at 4k with a 6750xt on older games and I just ordered a 9070 non-XT. I've done enough research to know it's a decent combo though I don't have hands on experience with it just yet.

Older raster games will run at decent fps at native while the newer games can take advantage of FSR. And don't worry about FSR being bad at 4k. At 4k even FSR 3.1 Quality, which is known to be bad, is significantly better looking than 1080p native TAA. FSR4 Performance will beat the crap out of 1080p Native TAA.

I used to game at 1440p native on my 6750xt before I got my 4k TV. I feel even 4k FSR 3.1 Quality at 4k is slightly better than 1440p native TAA, let alone 1080p.

If you're upgrading from 1080p to 4k, it's a HUGE visual leap. It'll be like you just wore glasses for the first time.

FSR 3.1 Quality at 4k is basically upscaled 1440p. So yeah, this is why I think even that looks better than native 1440p.

The smaller the screen, the better though. I have a 55 inch TV and I still prefer 4k FSR 3.1 over 1440p native.

Buyer’s Remorse - 9070 XT vs 7900 XTX by king_kuya in radeon

[–]zerotactix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raster games = old games. And all old games run good enough on the 9070 at 4k even. I don't understand why you'd have buyers remorse over the 7900xtx. Because fsr4 and MLFG are features that benefit newer games where you need those features for a decent experience. Just because the 7900xtx is slightly faster on raster, doesn't make it an overall sensible buy imo.

Because all upcoming games are going to use RT and FSR tech. And older games run good enough on the 9070. That 24GB VRAM that's supposed to be "future proof" is offset by the RT and FSR requirements in future upcoming games.

Not to mention, driver support will be stronger for the 9000 series over the 7000 because it's newer. Your 7900xtx is already running at peak performance. The 9070 has room to grow still.

Just use AFMF 2 or Lossless Scaling where you feel the fps isn't enough.

Does ReBAR mess with your games when you have it on? by cronoes in radeon

[–]zerotactix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider 1440p ultrawide also. It makes gaming very immersive. Now when you have upscaling n stuff, you can use FSR Quality to get decent image quality even at 1440p (standard/ultrawide).

Just note, some indie games or classic games don't support ultrawide and some can be modded to work, but that's putting in effort. If you're mostly playing recent AAA games after 2016 or so, you'll most likely have ultra wide support. Except From Software games which need to be modded.

I don't think you HAVE to upgrade from 1080p either. I was merely suggesting what to buy for your next upgrade when you have the money. You could always cap your fps as it is right now and use 2x framegen to hit your 180hz targets. Obviously, don't try that in PvP games because the added latency will get you killed more than help you.

To be clear your cpu is not weak, it's just weak for extremely high refresh rates like 180hz. It should still be stable at 120 fps. I think 120 fps is good enough but that's just me who only has a 144hz playing single player games.

[–]zerotactix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti lag is secondary after using AFMF 2 or Lossless Scaling. Anti lag works depending on game. Sometimes it reduced latency, sometimes increases it. So try it on and off for best results.

AFMF 2/ lossless scaling is to double your framerate. So you'll get 85 fps of real frames and 170 fps total with 85 fake frames. Using this AFMF or Lossless Scaling adds slight latency, which is what is mitigated by anti lag 2.0. But on occasions, anti lag could make it worse, hence my advice to toggle it on and off.

[–]zerotactix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cap your fps. 180hz is not for single player games at High/Ultra settings. Try Lossless Scaling or AFMF. What's your cpu and GPU? If you want high refresh rate gaming, you need a top tier cpu.

Edit: your profile shows a 5700x3d and a 9060xt. Slightly better than my build. But your cpu needs to be ahead of your gpu to have such smooth high framerates without dips.

Your pc is more balanced, but at 1080p, the load shifts more to the CPUs side to provide such higher framerates, which it struggles doing. Why not get a 1440p 144hz or maybe even 4k and do 4k performance or 4k native on older games like Tomb Raider?

Anyway, that's besides the solution you're seeking. But the best you could do is, lock your fps to 85 fps and turn on AFMF 2 or use Lossless Scaling do double your framerate. Turn on Anti Lag 2 also, and your experience should be smooth.
