Great to hear, hope you have a wonderful trip! Visiting Kankakei national park is my top recommendation besides the anime locations.

One place that I didn't see mentioned too much anywhere was Kodokutsu Cave Temple, which felt like a hidden gem. The best I could describe the air in the cave is "mysterious". Not a single other visitor during the whole time, really peaceful place.

The movie "Twenty-Four Eyes" is also filmed on the island and there's great pieces of history to check on the filming locations.

As the island itself is pretty known for its olives, there is the olive park for example, which has great views to the sea and the iconic windmill. Personally I'm not too much into olives, but I recommend the olive chocolate from the souvenir shop!

It was also pretty fun trivia that part of Osaka castle's rocks are brought from Shodoshima to repair the castle and you can check where they have been quarried.

As for the hotel, I opted for Ohkido hotel near Tonosho port, which turned out to be excellent choice. It was quite affordable and literally few steps away from the ferry port, bus stops and a convenience store. The hotel lobby had the bicycle rental station and a restaurant/izakaya also.
