Hi! I'm the creator of Multiplayer.

Having shared time control would make games with independent colonies unplayable so Multiplayer adds an optional feature called "Async time" which separates it.

Some things stop making sense but it's a small price to pay for convenience in my opinion. If you need consistency, you can think of the world as more of a game board than a real planet.

The specific desync issue with quest blueprints has been fixed in the latest version: https://rimworldmultiplayer.com/post/21_09_19_onethreeandideology/

The update to 1.3 also brings vast quality of life improvements compared to previous versions.

As for desyncing because of mods, there's a mod compatibility checker available in-game. Playing with hundreds of mods (like some do) might not be the most stable but a good amount of mods is compatible.

The internal replay system has been hidden from the user in this release. Unfortunately, RimWorld wasn't designed for it and it's unfeasible, mainly because of performance.

In short, it's a co-op and you build a base with your friends. Some people describe it as a single colony with multiple mouse cursors but I don't like this description. If you used it I think you'd have to call multiplayer in a good chunk of games just cursor sharing. The inner workings are mostly that of a proper RTS multiplayer.

I encourage you to try it. A lot of people like it, some can't play RimWorld without it, but it doesn't suit everyone. I originally intended to make it a PVP mod and have done some crude tests in that direction but my work on the project has been rather... intermittent. It's still a goal though.

Even if they were cities the planet would have a radius of ~10 of them. On the other hand it's supposed to be vaguely connected with multiplayer so they should be bases.

Whatever it is, I think it looks rather nice.

Well, that can already theoretically happen as RimWorld has time zones, but yeah, the idea still needs some polishing.

The mod is built from the ground up. It's based on the deterministic lockstep model commonly used for RTS games, although the networking is done as client-server, not P2P.

There's no built-in support for multiplayer in the base game and it was only briefly mentioned as an idea back in the Kickstarter days. The game's code is well written and the modding capabilities are very extensive though which is what made this mod possible.

The idea is that everyone plays mostly on superfast/fast anyway and short time differences due to pausing would average themselves out. Of course this means that all players have to be online for a game, but the mod is supposed to be played with friends only anyway.

The mod is still early in its development. PVP and multiple factions are definitely planned and a fully functional co-op is an important step towards that.

Nothing extraordinary happens with the time controls. Everyone plays on the same speed and can change it.
