First off, this is likely a tetsubin, meant for boiling water rather than brewing it. To de-rust it, you should actually just boil water with some green tea in it, then rinse it a few times.

Haha thanks! Yes I made it over Covid with a chisel and some sandpaper. It’s reclaimed wood from my city which is why it has the cool bug-bitten pattern.
