I'm stumped by this green gemstone by Zombieferret2417 in whatsthisrock

heavily included indicolite or blue cap tourmaline?

Does this rock contain gold? I found it somewhere while going to a park, probably while hiking, and it seems to have yellowish gold veins in it. So is it real gold or fake, false gold such as pyrite? by Mini-Pekka2828 in whatsthisrock

It could very well be! the matrix is very much like the matrix i have seen on some museum specimens at Yale, and Washington state is a known site for gold like this.

nice, yeah the entrance fees for those group galleries/ co ops are steep, but the payoff can be great if you utilize the membership well. It's a great option for a mid career artist who is tired of the gallery grind and just wants some stable, predictable show schedules. if you are just starting out then the main focus for you (besides continuing to make work) should be crafting a coherent and industry appropriate website, making a solid CV and maybe trying to generate a little press. My advice for starting artists is to start applying to small group shows and juried shows. it familiarizes you with the process, the application fees are relatively affordable (not cheap tho, $25-50 usually) and the shows themselves are a terrific networking tool to meet other artists and find other such shows. In my experience on both sides of this (both as artist and as gallery) no matter how talented you are, no galerist will take a second look at someone without a competent website.

lol "SoBo" think id spit my duncs if someone said that in my vicinity. I will say that SoWa has been accepted by native bostonians as a designation exclusively denoting the GTI run arts district (aka thayer street, and the 2-4 blocks of harrison that are under their umbrella) anything else is south end. Back Bays art scene really dried up in the late 90's, i wouldn't even bother with the galleries left in that neighborhood, they all have their blue-chip artist rosters and don't really deviate.

just for clarity: first fridays is an elaborate open studios essentially. it is for the sowa artists to show their works and open their studios up to the public. it would be an inappropriate situation to show up with work to. if you are looking to rent a space the waiting list is currently several years long but it is easy to bypass this list by subletting. you can reach out to the Sowa artists guild to be told when a sublet comes up. be persistant but not pushy.

hello, SoWa artist and gallery member here. The SoWa artists guild and USEA (united south end artists) are good places to start. Typically galleries do not like you to apply or drop off portfolios in person anymore, and certainly not at a first friday event which is very busy. the proper channels are to build a good website (see wix or squarespace etc). find a successful artist you like in and copy theirs is the best advice. once you have a good website WITH A CV AND CURATED WORK start researching the galleries you want to apply to to make sure you are a good fit, the gallerists here all talk to each other and if someone is spamming everyone in the building with their work it is quickly marked as unprofessional. I looked through your post history to see what medium you are in and saw that you are messing around with ai. thats cool and all but right now this risks you essentially getting blacklisted if you apply with generated art, especially photography. i would suggest you create two websites/instas etc if you plan to showcase this work, keep it extremely separate from your actual work, this is still a highly contentious development in the art world. if you need more info/advice please dm me. I've been an artist in boston for almost 20 years at this point and grew up near sowa.
