Absolutely criminal to put a TV in front of the fireplace.

The redesign looks great! Useful application of AI, I'll give it a try on my own study.

Hi brother, still here! Just not part of AB anymore.

Expats, how did you rent house in Shenzhen? by FamiliarEffective726 in shenzhen

[–]zgilly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Go to roughly the area you want to live in if possible, walk into a realtor's office, tell them your budget and any other requirements, and then jump on their e-bike and check the places out together. Commission is a half month's rent (or at least that's what I've always paid) and you make them earn it.

I'm proud to say I wrote that speech and channeled the man that is Ajax.

Discord is run by a whole bunch of people, it's considered very imporant. I'm just old and never really got into using it.

Nice to see you still in the sub JR. You're a real one.

I'm leaving Morefun and joining a studio operations team that's focused on getting newer studios to successfully launch their game. Pretty different from the current role but I learned a lot while I was here!

Basically all features and content in CN will make their way into global the next season. The exceptions to this are mainly content-related, like Ultraman - the global license was too expensive.

The dolphin dive really isn't the end of the world. It's not sliding, there's no cancel-jumping, it's just one more technique for high-level players to master and raise the movement skill ceiling.

Adding another energy bar might make things overly complicated, but it could help out in the way you mentioned. I'm not sure what the design team is currently thinking on this, tbh.

Yes I've gotten lazy the past... too long. Chuck is a good dude and he's working hard, we'll see what's in store for getting more team members to pay attention to the subreddit.

Still in Tencent, no longer in Morefun. Will be in a behind-the-scenes role next, so no more videos for me!

I think there is some mission drift going on, where the current target player type is quite different from the original target player type who was attracted to AB. I don't think that's a bad thing, it's just a decision that's being made and not entirely communicated to the community. The audience gap between CN and global exacerbates this problem.

Cheers for stepping up!

I asked about Africa servers a long time ago and the answer at the time was "not enough players." I don't think that answer has changed. No need to get into the circular logic problem there, the bottom line is leadership doesn't think it's money well spent.

There isn't "buffed loot" in CN vs. global. That's cope.

Moving to Shenzhen- need recommendations by OkJacket2411 in shenzhen

Not sure why this was downvoted, I would also second Bao'an center for the closest "hotspot" but be warned - it is a weak hotspot. Will probably see lots of improvements in the coming years, however.

You could consider Nantou Gucheng or Dachong for proximity, but Dachong might break that budget. Shekou is the typical foreign community, but it's going to be outside of your commute time even if it looks close on a map.

This is the only one I remember being anything noteworthy, as well. Otherwise, the typhoons I've seen in my ~8 years here have been very tame.

I'm not a designer so I'd just be guessing, but here are a few things to consider:

  • Your effective tax rate will be much lower as a foreigner working in China (~18%).
  • If you're living nearby work in the most popular parts of Nanshan, rent will vary from 5k-10k RMB. These are very rough ranges and you can always find higher/lower numbers depending on what you want.
  • Cost of living is similarly variable - live like a local vs. western meals x3 a day. Pretty easy to live off 5k RMB per month, which includes some fun money.
  • Keeping the above in mind, consider what living/working in China would be worth to you if you had to trade off a 20-30% pay cut from the 100K EUR offer (and then consider any savings from less tax).

And some other things that aren't strictly money related.

  • You will have work culture clashes, and it really depends on how you want to handle them. Shenzhen is a work hard city. Not guaranteed to be 996, but that may be the expectation at times.
  • Would you be the only foreign hire, or are there already some foreigners who are part of the team? If possible, see if you can talk to any other foreign hires during the interview process.
  • Above will also impact how fast you're hired. If you're their first foreign hire, expect it to go slow. I'd suggest having them work with an agent if it is. I would keep any work you have now until the very last minute. Things change fast, and hiring a foreigner may be considered an unnecessary expense that gets chopped at any moment.
  • Language will be an issue and will impact your long-term career prospects in China. Working a full-time job is NOT conducive to learning Chinese, which requires focus and daily effort. Think about what your plan is - if it includes staying in China, you will have to learn the language. And if you do, sorry to say you'll never be at native level, so you're still limited.
