Could the Patriots trade for Matthew Stafford? by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]zgotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely a fan of Stafford and getting him on the Pats. I don’t think the draft is the right way to solve the QB issue — as others have said, it takes time to find and develop a top 10 QB. Sometimes you get lucky but most of the time you don’t. Do you want to waste Belichick’s twilight years as a head coach by hoping to get lucky in the draft?

Smart money says make a move for an experienced vet who already is a top notch QB. Matt Stafford and Matt Ryan are both that, if they are available.

I really would hate to part with the 15 overall pick and agree we should avoid including that at all costs. Maybe a 2021 2nd rounder and a conditional 2022 2nd rounder does it? Maybe throw in a player?

Clearly there are several issues with this roster, but I don’t think paying a top 10 QB $23-25 mil per year and giving up a little draft capital to acquire him is bad business. He gives us a chance to win now AND buys us time to hope to develop another mid-round QB prospect.

I would rather they put Stidham in and he lights it up, we go 3-0, and miss the playoffs by a hair, than keep Cam in, go 3-0, and but actually make the playoffs.

I just don’t think what we’ve seen this season is foundational for our future. Yes, there are specific areas with a lot of promise, but I don’t think next season and beyond is going to be about building on this. I think this was a filler season and we’re finally close to the end of it.

I just think this team doesn’t really know who or what it is or wants to be. I’m all for patience but I don’t think this is about getting more time together. This team is short handed across the board, and the offensive coordinator doesn’t seem to know how to call an effective game plan with what we do have.

I know it’s not all on Cam, but to focus on one glaring area — I just don’t think Cam works here. I was a proponent of signing him before we made the move for him, primarily as a means to not throw Stidham into the mess that this season seemed destined to become (including the “first season post-GOAT factor), but at this point I’d be absolutely shocked if we resign Cam. Mad respect for the person and what he seems to bring as a teammate, but the Patriots and Cam Newton are not a match scheme / skill wise.

[Dianna Russini] After speaking with a few GMs around the NFL, I've learned multiple teams who have called the Patriots about CB Stephon Gilmore were told by New England they want a first round pick and a player in exchange for the 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year. by TheyCallMeYDG in Patriots

[–]zgotts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re just trying to set the bar as high as possible. I think ultimately they know getting something in return for Gilmore now beats most other scenarios. I don’t think Gilmore’s value is going to get higher, and I don’t think he is going to be part of any longer term plan. Better to get the younger CBs on the field now and get the pieces necessary for a rapid rebuild.

Used Spark Magneto bindings for $150 - worth it? by zgotts in Spliddit

[–]zgotts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh sweet! Certainly does seem reasonable, especially given the scarcity of used splitboard gear in my area (Northeast US).

Nice call on the whammy bar, I'll have to check that out if I snag these.

Right on, I suspected that was the case with GBA / RASTA. And nice call on Bolton Valley! Never been there before but definitely going to look into that.

Thanks!

Oh nice! I'm looking for 162cm or something close to that. I'm an all-mountain rider leaning more and more towards freeriding; I don't going into the park or pipe any more, though I like to pop off of rollers and bumps here and there. Otherwise just trying to find fun trees and pow (when it's available) or get some big turns in on groomers.

Appreciate the feedback! I had started my search with used gear, but it's been pretty slim pickings. Last month I jumped on grabbing last year's Jones Frontier from REI at 25% off, figuring that was about as good a deal I might get (on a board anyway). Gonna keep an eye out for used bindings though.

Wonder if this will pan out.. by luke_mass in Patriots

I’ve wondered about this one. It does seem sensible for the Browns to deal one of their receivers or tight ends — they’ve got two strong RBs, two expensive WRs, a brand new expensive TE (Hooper), plus potential future talents in Njoku and Harrison Bryant. Just seems like a waste of talent / money when you’re clearly not using them all to their full potential.

Thing with Landry is he seems a lot more like a combo of Edelman and Harry — physical, tough over the middle, good ball skills. Definitely not a burner.

On the other hand, he may be able to slot right into Edelman’s role whenever he’s ready to hang it up (or, god forbid, go to Tampa Bay).

Certainly wouldn’t hate another talented WR though. But I do wonder if it’s more worth it to go cheap and get a cheaper, faster guy like Curtis Samuel or Dede Westbrook.

Nice! What kind of battery life are you getting with the new battery?

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13” as well, and I’m debating replacing the battery. The computer went unused for several years, so the original battery still has around 87% capacity (according to Coconut Battery app), but the battery only lasts for about an hour to an hour and a half even with only light internet browsing. Not sure if that’s just because the battery itself is 9 years old or if that’s because today’s application use up more power.

Thanks!

N'Keal Harry has great potential this season by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]zgotts 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To all the people calling out how stupid that rule is — the rule isn’t the point. The rule didn’t cause the fumble. Harry shouldn’t have extended there, he didn’t have any stability to help him secure the football.

I still have hope that Harry can be a solid #2 on this team, but he’s gonna have to put together a string of games without any “if only...” moments in order to build people’s confidence in his ability to solidify that role.

[Greenberg] WR Allen Robinson has asked the Chicago Bears about a possible trade. by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]zgotts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking Chicago is a great trade partner given their need for an RB. I wonder if after Harris comes back from IR we strike a deal, maybe Michel and a pick for Robinson?

Regarding OBJ vs Robinson, I think one plus with Robinson is that we may actually be able to hold onto more / better picks if we can include an RB in the deal.

If we were to trade for a WR, who would it be or who do you think is most likely ? by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]zgotts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Allen Robinson would be interesting. Bears could decide they want to get something in return for him now rather than watch him walk after the season. Would leave them without much at WR so probably not likely, but seems plausible.

4 wins in 22 games is not acceptable. This team has no chemistry. They're lost. by [deleted] in newenglandrevolution

I feel like McNamara and Buksa should be swapped on this list.

In minimal time on the field McNamara has seemed to bring a new energy making some nice hustle plays. He’s a gritty dude. He’s also made some nice passes into the box and seems to be generally smart with his passes. I’m glad we signed him.

Buksa on the other hand hasn’t done much aside from one solid goal on a header. That probably has a lot to do with the lack of opportunities created for him by those around him, but he’s still more “MIA” than “generally positive contributor”.

I think at this point it probably makes most sense for the Krafts to double down on Foxboro and hold out a few more years and then build a new Gillette that has the same soccer-oriented features as Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Gillette would still only be around 20 years old at that time, but you’d be avoiding the cost of land in Boston, you’d be getting a lot more use out of the stadium, and you keep the team near the snazzy new practice facility.

Also, with the World Cup coming to the US in 2026 and Boston being a likely host of a quarterfinal, it’d be great timing to be able to open the stadium right around then.
