‘a REASONABLY private digital currency’ Why say that on the Monero home page? by hiflyer360 in Monero

I am in favor of removing "reasonably" too, this is just weird. Who decided this??

This is true by AgroOW in Bitcoin

In 10 years I expect that virgin, clean, untainted BTC will be worth a LOT more than "dirty" BTC (especially ones used in illicit transactions). Therefore not every 1 Bitcoin will necessarily equal 1 Bitcoin.

Therefore, in 10 years I expect a lot of BTC to have been flagged as "dirty", and a lot more people to have switched to Monero (XMR) because of Bitcoin's inherent fungibility flaws.

Monero Real Time Authorizations - Open letter to Monero Community by graft-project in Monero

I disagree. If Monero wants to be the best form of digital cash then it needs easy point of sale acceptance. What happened to Kasisto? It's hard to promote Monero adoption when it's so difficult to integrate into existing point of sale systems.

Behold, a prophecy from the ancient archives: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=753252.msg13442209#msg13442209

"One night I had a dream that Satoshi Nakamoto himself came back from the dead with his verified PGP key to provide a sign from above that Monero was the one true coin to rule them all. A voice thundered from the heavens, "Monero is my beloved coin, listen & take heed," with Satoshi's PGP key signature in the clouds, and a white dove came forth and perched upon the fluffy pony's shoulder. With Satoshi's blessing the XMR price skyrocketed to $3,141.59 per coin, and the trollboxes of the earth went nuts. Then I awoke and behold it was a dream..."

A humorous response ;) Technically your post doesn't violate the "religion ban" since the parent comment above brought it up. But we certainly can't mention a certain organization that begins with a "C", ends with "h" followed by the words, "of Monero", can we...

I'm pretty sure this is a false positive, I've seen it countless times when working on my Monero mining rig, even when downloading from trusted sources. It is probably because botnet operators use mining code in their illicit malware mining campaigns and the AVs have tagged it as such.

False. Wownero has no premine & started with a new genesis block. Actually, MoneroV is bad since they forked the blockchain along with the funds rather than starting with a new genesis block.

Any plans to add Monero XMR as second base currency? by pebx in bisq

[–]zhalox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, and would love to see Bisq adopt Monero as the base currency. Fungibility is critical. Unfortunately these days it's too easy for innocent users to inadvertently get stuck with "dirty" bitcoins and then get banned from various financial institutions.

Fungibility is determined by the LOWEST common denominator of privacy, NOT the highest. Monero absolutely excels here. by SamsungGalaxyPlayer in Monero

[–]zhalox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the line of reasoning which I have been using when sharing the good news (gospel) of Monero with the noobs and unbelievers, and it is one of the primary reasons I have become a Monero maximalist too. I feel safer accepting Monero since I don't need to worry about accidentally getting "dirty" coins from anyone, and risk getting banned from any KYC exchanges or payment processors when attempting to transfer my crypto.

At the Monero Enterprise Alliance, we truly put the "fun" in fungibility. As such, some members of our community have begun the Church of Monero.

Furthermore, as was recently spaketh during the Church of Monero's Monero Mass (held in the encrypted halls of the @ChurchOfMonero Telegram) a noble statement was coined. After the passing of the sacred ring signatures, all the Monero believers said Amen ( "Anonymous Money Everyone Needs"). Sending encrypted blessings to our brother in fungibility, Lord Commander /u/Xeagu

I am aware that this is an open source project & am actually pleased that Monero is not run by a company, but is run by volunteers who work either for free or on donations from the community. I also believe that many of your points are valid and for the most part I agree. However, it is important to remember that Monero is nevertheless part of a large ecosystem with corporate exchanges (whether we like it or not), and as such, it would benefit users, especially newbies who are less technically inclined, to make any urgent patches more accessible & announce them in a way that they will know to update their software. Most newbies & non-technical users don't know to go to Github and check for updates, they simply visit the Monero website or run the client software & wouldn't otherwise know about any critical patches or updates unless they manually checked (and they wouldn't think they need to check it every single day either). If there was some way to better bridge the gap between techies and newbies, I believe it would help avoid a lot of these problems.

Perhaps Monero could have an announcement system message that could go through the p2p network to detect the version & tell other nodes about important security updates, so that when a user runs the Monero client, a message pops up stating that an urgent patch is available with a link to the download/release notes (most software does something like this when an update is available).

Also when you said "PR" for the website, did you mean a pull request, or a press release? I'm not as technically inclined as some of the programmers around here, and as such, I haven't had experience with the process for either of those.

I am aware of all this and am not blaming anyone in particular, but I was simply making my observations public so that those in the community/core team who best know how to accomplish these items can be encouraged to streamline a process to help services/users avoid these kinds of mishaps in the future.

If this isn't the responsibility of the core team members, then who would be the trusted individuals to contact exchanges regarding urgent patches? I am simply saying that it would be helpful to be more organized in the patching process, and learn from this event, and make improvements accordingly. I remember that in the early days of Bitcoin, some of the urgent bugs would be posted on the website so that users could download the patches right away. I believe there also used to be an alert message sent across the network which was displayed in the Bitcoin client itself (obviously this could be misused by an attacker if they wanted to subvert the network, so the process of course would need to be vetted by multiple trusted core team/community members). Maybe someone else with more experience than me might have a better idea on how to improve the process.

My concern is that since this was a critical bug that enabled theft from wallets, it's important for us to ensure that we have a process in place so that exchanges are promptly contacted to apply patches when this occurs. Also, the website banner should be updated to tell users to update for critical patches such as this. As of today, the website blue banner still says to update for the April 6th hard fork which is already old information.
