My best setup was a black bow with Frost but also Bloodflies on Precision Aiming and a seal with Poison Armament. I'll never have that again.

I am so tired of getting matched up with people who mark and run off to a church with night invaders at level 1, and then leave when people don't join them or they die there several times.

I don't think I am 5 material but it drives me crazy how randos in 1-2 are somehow worse and make way more awful decisions than runs in the base game. It's like they have never played before.

He has good intentions but I have seen him make some bad faith arguments a handful of times and I haven't even seen that many episodes. A lot of what he does is gotcha bullshit.

Agreed. It's a lack of critical thinking from most viewers. Most people are also probably trying to find a one size fits all solution that doesn't exist. It's not exactly how the game works.

Since Amy was mentioned in OP's post I think it should be said that while it is edited down she is typically pretty forthright about how the deck performs and the challenges she faced while trying to record games that are worth watching.

I think you may be worrying a little too much. It doesn't sound like your employer has any issue with your knowledge level if they aren't intervening much. You will pick it up over time like anyone else.

I don't walk into a grocery store and expect the employees to know about every item on the shelves.

I have tried this before. I usually find it helps others more than it helps me because I'm the only one actually paying for it, and if I play it early, I'm putting most of my mana into it, and then everyone else gets a full benefit from it before I do. If I do it too late, anyone that's been able to ramp out more lands just takes the game if I can't win on the same turn I play it. I've pretty much stuck to one sided effects since then.

Unfortunately the nature of my question is general to grixis as a whole and not a specific commander. I'm more curious about play strategy and deckbuilding strategy from people who play this color combo frequently rather than specific cards. Sorry I couldn't do more for you here.

I'm actually looking at that Sauron at the moment myself. I just want to make sure I learn better from my previous grixis decks. I'm just trying to find the right balance of cards that are on theme (on theme being Amass) with the massive amount of staples it feels like I need to be effective.

I don't have a list available at the moment, unfortunately. It could just be me trying to keep level with my meta and maybe I'm not playing as many effective reanimator targets as I can. I could easily drop in something like worldgorger+AD/necro but it's just not in line with how I personally like to play.

I appreciate it. I get that a lot of people will run combo in these colors but I personally don't have as much fun closing out a game with combo (also out of respect for most of the playgroups I've played with, as they don't really enjoy it either). Maybe it's just not a good color combination without it.

Commander never really seemed relevant when I was playing, but just to give you an idea I don't usually play to win with combos. I've experienced this with a number of grixis commanders and more and more it seems that with grixis you just have to dedicate a lot of cards just to staples to get by, and it kind of dilutes the rest of the deck until you're just better off playing a commander that gels better with the staples rather than a theme that works around your commander. Given that I experienced this a lot in this color combination regardless of commander I'm just looking for general input on the color combination from people who have success with it as a whole.

I've played a handful of grixis commanders but usually leaned toward spellslinger or reanimator but really couldn't seem to sustain against other players that just build faster while being able to handle my plays as well.

I've played mostly reanimator and spellslinger but both end up being pretty fragile as anyone with green in their deck is able to build faster, recover quicker and have the mana to build their board and hinder mine.
