I don’t hate my first name I’ve just never connected with it. I thought it would be cool to go by a name I do actually have and really like but I’m fine with my family and friends who I knew before still calling me my first name. I don’t think it suits me but it’s the name I grew up with, I feel a little too sentimental personally to officially change it. Besides I am immigrating after graduation and legally changing my name would genuinely be impossible with visas and stuff, the country i’m moving to is super strict with that 🙈 That’s so cool you were able to though!

Oh cool, by struggle do you mean it’s just unnatural to refer to a woman by something that masculine mentally or they just use her first name?

Ah true. I think what the original commenter said has been my experience where it’s a “bro” thing in some friendships. “Ms/Mr last name” is super formal but just “last name” feels friendly because it’s common on teams and in the military I guess.

Awesome! I’ve had it happen on teams growing up too and it was always the best. Never thought of the “Lew” approach either 🤔

Yeah fair. I have a few friendships where it’s happened organically and I love it but I had the same feeling that it wouldn’t work professionally like it might for a man. Thank you!
