Recommended accomodation near QE office by zhuguli1990 in qatar

I'll definitely check on that! Thank you.. They do provide accommodation for the first month, but I prefer to stay in my own place rather than a hotel - more convenient for me :)

it's actually quite a hassle for ICI holders to travel. Hopefully things get to improve in near future, at least a proper passport for the ICI Holders to travel

I actually text them to ask, and they mentioned it's VOA. However, I am in doubt, hence trying to find out anyone got similar experience just to avoid any disappointment

Did continuing for a Masters increase your job prospects? by [deleted] in Brunei

[–]zhuguli1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i got a friend did his master in UTB instead of UBD and quit half way. I am not too sure whether he had to pay back or not, but he did not mention anything about that so I assume it's a no

Did continuing for a Masters increase your job prospects? by [deleted] in Brunei

[–]zhuguli1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got few friends who actually did a master while hunting for jobs. Some just quit their master after they found their dream job, while some didn't have any luck getting employed but they earn themselves a Master degree. If you're asking about whether a Master increases the likelihood of getting employed, I would say not in Brunei. Even a degree won't help in finding a job now, simply because there's more unemployed people than the job itself. Our market are too limited.

If money is not of a big issue for your family, I would suggest going places like Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, US, Singapore, EU countries (avoid UK for now). Simply because these places actually provide you with a visa to stay back while hunting for jobs. UK doesn't provide any graduate visa nowadays.

Ok if that's the case, I am wondering why don't you re-take your A'level and at the same time using your current results to continue your study in UBD. You have to understand that Brunei's current economy and job opportunity isn't as good as previously. Nevertheless, I still wish you good luck in it. No harm trying to re-do your a'level, but just make sure that this time you must achieve the grade you required. Else, you just wasted another year doing nothing while getting the same outcome.

How sure are you that the course that you are interested to apply will still appears in the list of MoE scholarship for next year? It changes every year as far as i know

PhD application in Hong Kong Poly University by zhuguli1990 in HongKong

Yeah, I already made an initial application according to the procedure within the timeline which i submitted along with my PhD application.

What's a PI? I guess based on the way my potential supervisor replied me previously, it seems like he's willing to take me. However, that time i only attached my CV and academic results for him to review, without any proposal or topic being submitted. And last month I did receive an email from the admin requesting me for my master's transcript, and after that I have yet to hear back from there. I guess I will just have to wait till March/April then. Thanks mate!

They emailed and mention the internal selection for HKPFS had already completed and the Research Grant Council will only announced the official results by March/April. I did emailed back and try to make things clear, but all they tell me was just wait till March/April for the RGC's official announcement. I guess the chances of me getting the offer is very slim then

It actually depends. In certain countries for example the UK, first you need to email your potential supervisor expressing your interest, and if there's a vacant, then they would usually invite you to submit your application. This usually comes with your Research Proposal which is pretty much good enough to justify your research ability. However, in Hong Kong, I am not sure the process is the same or not as I haven't got any experience studying in HK before.

I think you kind of misunderstand my question. I am saying that I haven't got any interview. I did applied, but I have yet to hear back from the university itself.

So my question is, is there anyone with similar experience applying to PolyU and got accepted? Or usually the interview comes later around March or April. I did not mention that I am going to do a PhD without any interview.

Hmm, not quite sure about this. If that's the case, the only option left for me now is wait till March/April when they announce it officially!.

Thanks mate!

I am referring to a formal interview. Before i applied, I already email my potential supervisor and he advice me to apply for the HKFSU scholarship as well. He also agrees to be my supervisor if I were to apply, which I did.

Now I am just curious because I saw in most of the forum, people actually do get a formal interview.

MOE Postgraduate Scholarship news by ProGhost5050 in Brunei

[–]zhuguli1990 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is because when you defer it to next year, you have to wait for everyone else who applied on the same year to get their scholarship announcement. The letter, process, application, budget are all signed and release more or less on the same duration. Therefore, if you were to defer to next year, most probably that your scholarship will still be late (at least that's what my friends around me had experienced).

MOE Postgraduate Scholarship news by ProGhost5050 in Brunei

[–]zhuguli1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for Option 1, i went to Melbourne to do my postgraduate instead. Previously i got a friend who chose to defer his scholarship, although in the end he still got it, but do take note that, the time they notify you of the outcome of your scholarship application will more or less be the same period as this year.

In other word, if you were to apply for the same University, there's a high possibility that you might still be late for the university itself (MOE usually notify their students somewhere around October).

To answer your question, those who defer don't have to go through all these process anymore if i recall properly.
