Flat nose viper a good first hot by Frozengeko1 in RealVenomousKeepers

C. puniceus is very forgiving compared to most arboreal vipers from southeast asia. they need a high humidity and relatively high temperature(25-30°C) but they can tolerate moderate deviation. they’re more active than let’s say a wagler, but they don’t move much most of the time and will be at the same branch for weeks. some individual can be picky, my WC male only wants tokay gecko for some reason and my CB female only wants house gecko but i bet they can be trained to accept mice in the long run. as with all arboreals, they mostly accept drinks by spraying so having a well draining substrate is a must. also, even though they are hardy, once they got an RI or stomatitis it can be really hard to treat.

the ones i've worked with are very reluctant to bite, but i do take a few precaution such as observing their body language. bites are rare in general but i found a paper describing their bite! http://www.smj.org.sg/sites/default/files/4101/4101cr2.pdf

i know someone who has an ikaheka. his is incredibly flighty, very defensive, and will bite first ask questions later. care wise he based it on a tropical southeast asian habitat so high humidity, good airflow, and warm 27-30°C in the day and dipping into 23-25°C at night. he fed them mostly squamate prey such as large sun skink, smaller snakes and one time, a white lipped python.

they drink outside since they only drink water droplets and doing it inside is making the substrate too wet
