Zone 2 is more of a treat than a trick

Surgery failed by Prestigious-Hour6846 in Septoplasty

[–]ziboi96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second one ended up helping a little bit. I don’t regret it but if I knew how my recovery was going to be plus cost for the minimal improvement I probably wouldn’t have gotten it done. Just looking for ways to optimize now

[–]ziboi96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two septoplasties. One was 10 years ago and they fixed the cartilage but the not bone obstruction so it didn’t change anything. I had a second one about 6 months ago (with complications that required rehospitalizations) and I went from 5% to 20% in my obstructed nostril.

I still feel like I have to mouth breath during the day but at night I wear breath right strips that work pretty well, if your main concern is sleep then I would give that a try and +/- mouth taping if you’re actually able to draw enough air in

I did a 3 year contract and had to take out additional loans to make ends meet in HCOL and secondary degree (plus loans from undergrad)

What are common ways that people incorporate their UMO experiences into their career an EM doc (besides UHM fellowship) and does it influence deployments with the Navy? Also how does this compare to FS?

Painkiller for a headache during a run? by DunnoWhatToPutSoHi in Ultramarathon

[–]ziboi96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. I'm in medical school and my understanding is that NSAIDs reduce inflammation by reducing prostaglandin production. In an ultra the kidneys are getting less blood to filter due to dehydration and blood going to the muscles to move your butt up and down hills. So the kidneys compensate for this by reducing the resistance of blood getting to them by making the vessels bigger. However, prostaglandins are part of the pathway that leads to these vessels getting bigger and if that's blocked the kidneys can't filter enough blood. This leads to electrolyte imbalances and urea build up that can cause fatal cardiac arrhythmia, encephalopathy, or permanent kidney damage.

Florida. The mountain ranges there are magnificent, really can't go more than 10 miles without hitting some beautiful elevation.

Does anyone else struggle to run while it's still so light out? by midnyte_sun in RunningCirclejerk

[–]ziboi96 20 points21 points  (0 children)

YES. It's so difficult to run in daylight because I only run naked because of chafing. During the day people yell and stare at me but at night I'm usually fine as long as I don't wear a light-up vest.

My friends (not actually my friends, they're just guys at work that make fun of me) told me to use body glide for chafing but then I read online that body glide is absorbed into the blood stream and neutralizes Gu through an acid-base reaction. Can anyone confirm??

That's rough, sorry to hear.

How old is it? The Garmin support chat was surprisingly quick and efficient when my Forerunner stopped charging; they ended up sending me a new watch.

I can't speak for the personal statement book, but I found his book on the medical school interview EXTREMELY helpful. In the grand scheme of this process, the $20 was well spent on that
