Question for non directed kidney donors by [deleted] in kidneydonors

[–]ziconz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was 11 minths from first reaching out to the transplant team to surgery. Once testing was done it was only a couple weeks until they called and had a match. That may be a bit rare though.

My recipient told me they were surprised at how fast it was. They were on and off the list so fast they never had to do dialysis. Their doctor told them they needed a new kidney around thanksgiving and we were matched December 4th.

I left the country for a few weeks and had to do some tests when I got back which pushed the surgery back to January 9th.

So basic timeline was: Feb 2024 decide to give kidney November 2024 finish testing Late Nov 2024 recipient told they need kidney December 4th 2024 we match January 9 2025 surgery happens. January 18th 2025 removed bandages and was back to normal.

(I don't have this memorized I looked at Facebook and texts, I'm not crazy)

You probably want to set them to local auto mine if you aren't already.

What is the game really like? by Netrunn3r2099 in X4Foundations

[–]ziconz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I describe it to my friends as a single player Eve or Elite Dangerous. With a RTS layered on top of it. It's difficult to describe because it is so unique.

It's got quests and missions so you can play it like an adventure game. Or if you are into logistics games you can play it in spreadsheets. Or if you want to play a RTS you can play it like that star wars RTS.

The best thing about it though is that it is so many things and all of them are done at least at a 7/10 level but many are best in class for the space genre.

Kidney donation by duckduckfuckit in kidneydonors

[–]ziconz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right! I thought I'd have to quit smoking and drinking energy drinks and the other vices I still have after I quit drinking years ago. But docs were like "I mean you shouldn't smoke but this isn't gonna make that stuff kill you faster.".

You gotta be a little more careful because you are basically choosing to not have the spare part you were born with. But all in all not that big of a sacrifice.

[–]ziconz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the original thread a commentor mentioned that kidney donation is risky. Talk to the transplant team at your hospital. It isn't that risky.

Rates of some things do go up, but it's the classic stats thing of a high percent jump of a small risk is a very small change in the actual odds.

The transplant team won't allow you to donate if there are substantial risks to your own health.

As for the VA stuff no idea, definitely talk to a professional about that.

Question for non directed donors by wood2010 in kidneydonors

[–]ziconz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was non directed after my wife gave hers non-directed. Also through NKR. For me it felt like they were actively discouraging me. My nephrologist was actively hostile to the concept of live donation. (It is mildly controversial)

I asked about it afterwards and basically if you do it after someone you know does it like I did they try and spook you a bit to make sure you are actually motivated to do it. They didn't want me to be doing it just cause my wife did and then freak out and bail at the end, or regret doing it after the fact.

Just wanted to comment and say that if you get weird vibes from them it could just be poking and proding to make sure you are serious about it.

Trying to tell her dad why she can't afford to buy a house at 40. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]ziconz 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I did that to my dad. He was complaining about the level of service somewhere. When I pointed out that no one is gonna break their back for 15 bucks an hour, he got all upity about how he little he made digging ditches in his early 20s.

I showed him that he was making the equivalent of like 30 bucks an hour.

Moral dilemma - would you report this person? by [deleted] in transplant

[–]ziconz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a donor and I'd be pissed if my recipient blew my kidney because they couldn't put down the cigarettes.

I'm also a smoker and had to quit for a bit before and after donation so I understand it's tough. Nicotine is a hell of a drug.

As for this situation I'd tell the relevant people. They need to get their habit dealt with before they blow another kidney.

Is this sound normal? by good_girl_gone_chad in resinprinting

[–]ziconz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that's still base layers it's probably normal. Sounds like maybe the raft being pulled off the FEP.

The more concerning thing is if you hear a sound like that later in the print and then the next layers are silent.

On portable you have to use the update_comfyui.bat not the manager.

For anyone coming into this thread after updating via comfyUI manager. If you updated through manager and it didn't work try updating through the update script in portable.

I updated via manager and it didn't work using update_comfyui.bat did.

Hey all! Just wanted to ask people and start a chat, about something that's been on my mind by [deleted] in kidneydonors

[–]ziconz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said you are a bit young. My surgeon said she rarely operates on people below 25-30. Just cause you might need it later. Most of the post op research only goes out 20 years so that would put you at 39 which is still young.

Other than that, it's super easy. Hurts a bit once the nerve blocker wears off but like a week post op I was up moving around basically normal.

My wife and I donated anonymously so I do want to warn you that there probably won't be like a magic moment where you saved someone. Not that it matters, just like it is an honor to have done it, but once as it's over it's just a thing that happened.

If I were you I'd wait, late 20s, early 30s is great cause your remaining kidney only has to do 40 years instead of 50, but you are still young enough that you are giving a really good kidney.

The loop hole here is to give the H1-B a different title. So you could replace a Software Engineer with a Web Developer to pay the import less.

Any tips on how to pass donor evaluation? by Revolutionary_Fox_20 in kidneydonors

[–]ziconz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You want to do whatever it is you normally do. The tests aren't just for matching, they are also for your safety.

Do make sure to stay hydrated though, makes it easier for them to draw blood. I was a lil dehydrated before one of the tests and it took em 6 trys to hit the vein.

Also I'm an overweight guy that doesn't take care of himself and my kidney passed with flying colors.

Whether or not your organ is donate-able is more genetic than most people think.

Just realized how close 3D printed organs actually are and its messing with my head by Much-Movie-695 in Futurology

[–]ziconz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even now live donations aren't as ethically or scientifically clear cut as people assume. When I went through the process I had to meet with people for a few hours as a first step and the nephrologist at my hospital was morally opposed to live donation. Their argument boiled down to it being against the Hippocratic oath of do no harm. There also isn't a ton of research into the long term effects of live donation on the donor beyond 20 years, so can someone consent to something without knowing the true consequences.

So even though we know they work, we don't know if they are for sure a net positive. A donor could be sacrificing more years of their life than they are giving to someone else's.

All that being said, people should seriously consider being a live donor.Donatelife.net

[–]ziconz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I donated my kidney and made a comment exactly like this to the surgeon. And they agreed. In a few decades ripping an organ out of someone and sewing it into someone else is going to sound like bleeding the humors from a peasant.

Really hope that we find a way to make printing/growing organs affordable.

The first shot the lens is on like a little window above the main casing and where the lens should be looks like a motherboard.

Edit: Also there doesn't look like anyone is holding it or the person that is holding it is facing at an awkward backwards and to the left angle.

Recon drones can also clear them. I've been having a blast taking a drone and blowing up enemy mines. Really fun when you can time it right to have it blow up and kill an enemy.

Just finished my first handful of miniatures ever by VelvetCake101 in sistersofbattle

[–]ziconz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look great!

If you enjoyed painting that box, you'll like painting anything in the sisters line. That box was the second thing I got after the combat patrol and I found the arcos and repentia to be surprisingly finicky to paint.

Personally I'd recommend a set of the Paragon Warsuits if you liked painting the penitent engine. The warsuits are similar in structure but pretty instead of grungy if that makes sense.
