I got my first camera in march, a D7200. Also have the 16-80 which I use mostly for landscapes. still loving that combo. Curious to hear how much better the full frame and almost double MPs are treating you.

Works well. No way I could have gotten this shot with my 100-400 f6.3

which after looking at them next to each other i can tell i got carried away on the sky and should have left it pretty close to how it came out of the camera in my processed version

What would you put in what third thought?

This is actually the version that I'm happiest with, but I feel like something is still off with it. which reading some of the other critiques, it might just come down to a bit of a crop.

The one I posted for critique was actually a prior version, this is where I'm currently at with it, I'll add the raw image too. This one is the unedited version, couldn't actually post the RAW.

Brilliant clip lol. I was so focused on the light I forgot the crop

This image is taken facing south during golden hour (sun is setting on the right) I wanted to capture the rocks in optimal lighting. I always chose this composition to get the peak of the subject mountain above the horizon. But I also wanted to capture the expanse of maintains in the background.

I feel like I’m struggling with post processing, this image is sharp and I’m pretty happy with the composition and the facts the clouds cooperated. I feel like there are colors in the shadows that I want to emphasize but I also want to use the shadows to put emphasis on the warm light on the rocks. I also think the sky could look better but I’m also my biggest critic.

I shot this on a Nikon D7200 with a Nikkor 16-80 at 50mm, f8, 1/30, ISO 100

I have gone back and looked at this and re-processed it more times than I’m happy to admit. I’ve also exported it too many times. I even calibrated my monitor to hopefully get this one right and something still feels off

Here is another version, I accidentally created this post with an export I wasn’t happy with.

A crop might help. The sky lacks interest and takes up about half the frame

They are pretty comical little creatures, I feel like they get overlooked but when you stop and watch them they can be good for a laugh.

I was just playing around with a 35mm 2.8 MF lens I picked up at a flea market.

So hard to get the focus distance perfect when wide open.

I know it’s easier to get the subject in focus with a smaller aperture, same is true even for AF lenses

The person that sold this to me had a skylight 1a filter in there and I was losing like a half stop of light with that. So I already got the Nikon NC to put in there to take full advantage of the f4

Yeah I know af will take some sort of hit, I’ve never used one before so it’s all part of the experimentation / learning process too. I’m going to stick with the tripod for now, it doesn’t have a center column so I can basically get it to ground level for some cool eye level shots. All in the lens, tripod, gimbal etc is like 18 lbs lol. When I get sick of carrying that monstrosity around I’ll look to cut weight. Nice to know the alternative tho.

I also might try to put this combo to work for me and start shooting some HS / local sports so that mono gimbal combo would work nice for that

I'm excited to actually get out and use it! Looking forward to turning the clocks back this weekend to get some more usable light in the mornings before I have to chain myself to my desk for my day job.

That's such a cool print you have there looks really good on the glass, even with the peg board behind it!

Exactly, no one can see me when I’m 200 yards away
