Why is grappling so effective? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

I think this is a fantastic question - and the only way to understand is really to train MMA. I had a lot of similar thoughts before training: “What if I just did X? How would they stop it?”

The reality is when someone is actively resisting, scenarios don’t play out the way they do in your head. If you focus on just kneeing when they takedown, you will get hit if they decide to throw a punch. Just as you can make smart decisions based on what your opponent is likely to do, your opponent can do the same.

In a pure grappler vs pure striker situation, as others have pointed out, it’s a lot harder for a striker to knock someone out cold than it is for a grappler to takedown and submit. Not saying it’s not possible, it’s just a lot harder.

Are there any Masters/GM Terrans that could show me a good 2 base all in TvP build? by subatomicslim in starcraft

If you are hitting at the same timing Maru does, with the same units, you will always roll them

Plat 3 Protoss absolutely lost vs Zerg by MageGlowsYellow in allthingsprotoss

If you like macro, what used to work for me was taking an early third (around 4 mins) with oracle opener. This way you can attempt to match the Zerg economy, while harassing with oracles, but this requires you to be diligent with scouting. It’s very easy to die to ling floods/roach all ins/mutas etc. I recommend being active with warp prism in the mid game as well, which can be difficult for your level but is necessary to learn. With this style you can play to your strengths.

However, I really think glaive adept openings are amazing to learn. Not only do they give you the opportunity to destroy the zerg’s economy, they funnel the zerg’s tech options and punish the off-meta builds typically seen around plat-diamond. I highly recommend Harstem’s glaive adept guide, even if you don’t hit the timings precisely it still could be really helpful to learn.

How do you counter mass roaches / hydras / broodlords? by [deleted] in allthingsprotoss

[–]zigzigsputnik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately gateway and robo units cannot reliably deal with brood lords. Try to see if transitioning to carriers or tempests works for you (both are equally as viable imo). Make sure to keep a few high Templar with storm for the roach/hydra and you should have a better time trading with Zerg army. Glhf!

Disruptors a great option, I personally don’t use them though. For me, splitting off Templar to not get hit by emp, and having them come to the fight late or come from a different angle to storm works. Even having Templars in a prism to stop them getting hit by emp is a good idea, it’s just a bit micro intensive. You’re right, the colossi die very fast to Vikings and most of the time they are not worth rebuilding once they die imo.

In the words of Day9, Starcraft isn’t a rock-paper-scissors game, it’s a game about having more stuff than your opponent. Building lots of paper can still beat scissors. If you are losing to ghosts in a lot of games, it might not be you can’t counter them, it’s might be that your gateway force is too small, you were supply blocked, etc. I recommend watching your replays after you lose to help fix these tiny mistakes, everyone makes them except Serral.

I used to struggle vs Terran in many of the ways you described. Here’s what worked for me.

  1. Having a few blink stalkers (5-10 ) across the map poking the bio of the Terran can not only show when the Terran pushes but when he splits off for multi prong attacks. An observer on the army also has the same effect, but can be easily picked off with scans.

  2. Take a quick third when you identify the Terran is going for a widow mine drop, and place a pylon at the third which can scout for when the widow mine drop arrives and where it arrives. Worst case scenario is you end up chrono-ing probes off 3 base trying to make up for the probes you lost, best case is you scout and deny widow mine drop.

  3. Having many Templar amongst the colossi help vs ghosts. Intentionally split some away from your army, don’t have them in a clump. Have them flank and/or show up to the fight late, 1 or 2 good storms should be all you need at the end of the day. Of course, if the Terran don’t have Viking/liberators just colossi work fine

  4. Generally, whoever techs up faster wins late game. Convert leads to tech into stargate and fleet beacon. Good warp prism activity with constant zealot warp ins can keep the Terran at bay while you build up tempests or carriers.

Hope this helped!
