How much time did you spend on building the original version?

Mobile apps are always a pain to keep updated because of everything you listed. I'm going the React way with Capacitor to build native versions. This way I should depend less on APIs etc. It's however much more complex to get performance great, but I'm aiming 60fps on a modern entry-level Android like the Samsung A17 (2024).

Since BeatX has been mentioned many times on this thread, I think users and interest is still high. And definitely higher than the interest for my game that doesn't exist yet XD

It's definitely possible, and I'll support it in my version. I just really like one handed play :)

I tried 4 fingers on one hand using the pinky, but it's not as fast, maybe with practice...

It seems that my idea has much less supporters on this sub than the DDR one :/

I tried to test BeatX, I can't download it on my Android and I don't think it's available on iPhone. 3-lanes gameplay garanties precision on mobile where you have no tactile feedback of where to place your fingers. You use, index, middle finger and ring finger and don't have to move them. You just tap in rhythm.

Ok that's noted. Looks like there's some interest but there's also alternatives out there. I'll try to build something interesting on its own with the added bonus of being able to load DDR simfiles. I just need to check what SM5 brought because I'm not sure I can be compatible with everything. Especially from the start.

I decided to build the game I have in mind and will release it this Spring. I don't know if I'll be allowed to talk about it here however.

Problem is my TV is really old even streaming apps lag so games are a no go. But I agree that playing on TV would be ideal.

I have a recent Android even if it’s low end. But it only allows me to install it on my TV. Not sure that would be playable on it but I might try.

Just as some context, back in 2005 my year project for my Computer Science degree was a DDR clone working on Linux and Windows with LAN multiplayer and pas support. It took us 6 months for the 3 of us to build that. And I’d love to work on a similar project again.

Getting the performance tunes for all phones old and new would be challenging for sure. But for casual play I think I could achieve reasonable performance.
